NAS with vodafone router/modem

Hi guys, I have one of those Voddafone Broadband Complete modems (Hauwei HG556a I think it is).

I would like to use to NAS feature of it. Now I can connect a disk and read files from it, but I have tried 2 different USB drives now and both get the 'Access denied: Disk is write protected" error when trying to copy files to it. Obviously this is not ideal as I want to just leave it connected to the router and shift files to it as need be. I am guessing its something to do with windows access permissions but I cant for the life of me get it to work. Both drives have previously been on XP machines, and I seem to recall when connected to other Linux machines I also coulnt write to one of them.

I have tried making the only permission "Everyone" with Full Access still no go

Anyone have any ideas. I dont need any access control really just want a drive connected so that its contents can be accessed by all machines on the network.

Any help is appreciated

Clive
