Following on from today's earlier thread about a 2km fixed wireless link, I want to do something similar, but with a twist:1) MAIN STATIONUsing Ubiquiti NBE-M5-16 or similar connected to Vodafone RBI wireless router2) SECOND HOUSE ON OUR PROPERTYDistance from main station 100 metres approx, line of sight except for a few Totara leavesUsing Ubiquiti NBE-M5-16 or similarEthernet bridge to main station required with 2.4GHz WiFi router and wired ethernet devices to be connected3) NEIGHBOUR'S HOUSE (off-grid)Distance from main station 1.3km approx, line of sight to pole on hilltop with 140 metre buried ethernet cable to house (lightning protector and earth spike near pole)Using Ubiquiti NBE-M5-16 or similarLinksys WRTP54GP2 VoIP router with 4 LAN ports & 2.4GHz WiFi to be connectedQuestions:a) We are in an isolated country area with no nearby WiFi equipment except our own, all running on 2.4GHz. Is it best to use 5GHz or 2.4GHz for the nano beams given the Totara leaves obstructing the nearby station 100 metres away?I could get the chainsaw out and hack off another branch or two from the Totara tree although would prefer to avoid this. The leaves are pretty sparse anyway.b) Would there be any interference issues between the WiFi routers inside the various houses and the nano beams if a 2.4GHz link was used?c) Because I need point to multi-point rather than a simple point-to-point bridge, is the NBE-M5-16 the best choice?d) Would MikroTik equipment be better?e) How would I go about metering and if necessary controlling the traffic to the neighbour's house if he starts using horrendous quantities of data? Thanks for any suggestions or comments.
