wifi two ssids

Have an issue with a wifi on a windows 8.1 laptop.

The wifi strength bars keep dropping.

What is happening is the laptop detects the router SSID and displays it twice.

For example - the SSIDs name might be "router" and I can see that name displayed with other Wifis in the area but it also displays another SIDD named "router 2"

with the number 2 after the name and I can only connect to that second wifi, one not the proper one.

I went into the router settings and the SSID's name is router and there are no other SSID names

I uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi driver and restarted the laptop but that did not fix the issue.
