Do I need a Router or Router/Modem for Home UFB Setup?

Hi all, just after a bit of advice:

I have an existing UFB connection via 2degrees in Christchurch. My current setup consists of a FRITZBox! WLAN 7390, which is plugged into a Huawei unit (Fibre Network Terminal installed/owned by Enable). I have had the FB for several years now as it was originally supplied by Snap. I would like to upgrade to a better unit with newer technology for increased WiFi speed and range in my home.

I am considering the ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless Router as a possible replacement for the FRITZBox! WLAN 7390, however I'm not sure if this is the correct type of router. There is also the ASAS DSL-AC68U, a wireless router but with a built-in DSL modem. There are other brands I'm considering also but the ASUS seems pretty good (any recommendations would be appreciated).

Which model do I need in order to properly connect to the internet? From the information I can find online the RT router unit provides better WiFi performance than the DSL router/modem version, but I'm not sure if the RT version alone plugged into the Huawei Fibre Network Terminal will allow me to connect to the internet via 2degrees using my account username and password etc...

Thanks in advance.
