USB printer not working on Huawei HG659

Hi,

I cannot get my USB printer (Brother HL-2240D) to work on a Huawei HG659 as supplied by BigPipe-I'm on a BP fibre plan. Apologies in advance if posting to the wrong subforum*.

My setup is a MacBook Pro 2017 OS 10.13.2 :

System Preferences>Printers & Scanners>IP>Address: 192.168.1.1:631/printers/Brother_HL_2240D_seriesProtocol: HP Jetdirect - SocketUse (driver): Brother HL-2240D series CUPS

The setup on the MacBook is all okay as far as I can tell. The correct drivers are installed, (since) the printer works when connected directly to the MacBook via a thunderbolt 3 port. However, when connected to the HG659 USB port I get

'Unable to write print data: Broken pipe'

on the error log when I send a document to the printer.

Been bumping my head against this for a while without success; any software fixes gratefully received.
