Skinny broadband router settings

Just recently had Skinny broadband fibre installed. I spoke to skinny as I wanted to get a better router than the Huawei HG659 that they provide. I was told I can only use this router as they do not give out their router settings.

Does anybody know if this is correct? Has anyone used a different router on the skinny network? And if so can anyone help with the settings?
