Hi all,

I am looking at adding some ethernet jacks to rooms in my parents house. This will be my first time doing any home networking so I will really appreciate any feedback!

Some of the rooms will be wired in during the first install of networking gear, but I want to be able to easily add jacks into other rooms with little effort in the future.

The house in using VDSL and comes through an access point at the front of the house.

I have made a simple diagram of what it should look like, not sure if it will appear for you guys I will try attach it.

SHOPPING LIST:

Keystone: Dynamix Keystone RJ45 Jack for 110 Faceplate

Faceplate :Dynamix UTP Keystone Jack Type110 single and dual port

Mounting boxes : Dynamix FP-MBOX38 Mounting Box for face Plates

Switch: I have a simple $20 8 Port TP Link already lying around

Cabling: 50M/100M of CAT 6.

Punchdown Tool : Dynamix 110 Punch Down Tool

I think a patch panel is unnecessary for this simple setup so will just run the cables into the switch.

QUESTIONS:

Is there an elegant way to have to cables run to the switch, perhaps through a rubber grommeted face plate in the wall?

Do I need outdoor cable for underfloor installation? Or could I use a PVC conduit?

Is a unmanaged switch okay for simple home use?

Thanks in advance!
