For our new two storeyed flat.Currently there are no setup, still figuring out and doing our homework before buying the kit which suits our needs.5 people in the flat and most of them are heavy users. So need a setup which will provide decent speeds upstairs as well.Big chunk of usage will be coming from p2p and usenet servers, we already have our ISP sorted with a big data plan.Could you please help me decide on which way to go?1. Ubiquiti AirRouter. Believe it can run OpenWRT but the Ubiquiti firmware I think is solid enough802.11n so nice and fast $83 from Go WirelessBut not sure if the firmware is upgradeable and able to run custom third party stuff such as dd wrt.2. Was recommended WRT54GL flashed with Tomato or DD-WRT but seems a little old school and did a bit of digging around and came with option 33. Asus N16u with 3 removable antennas but $200. The Ubiquiti doesn't have removable antennas but says it is commercial standard and the in built one is pretty much the bomb and the ubiquiti is about $85 which is a lot cheaper.Things going for Asu RT-N16 with Toastman's Tomato firmware - Print, file and media server, gigabit, wireless N, grunty as specs so will never fall over under heavy load. Apparently if you have QoS setup, browsing never slows down if someone else downloading, and it meters the amount of traffic every PC on the network uses <<<<----IS THIS POSSIBLE? without having to install third party software on each and every devices accessing the network??Downside: Not sure if Ubiquiti air router can do everything this one does for less than half the price.4. Just buy a decent cheap adsl2+ wifi n modem router and either replace the antennas with high power ones or use repeaters? - I'm not sure which repeaters to go for if this option wins.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Now the main purpose of the setup is to have full speed ADSL2+ downloads, I do understand I wouldn't need a very expensive set up for this to happen, but the reason why I'm on here is because the modem/router will have to be set up in the lounge downstairs and 3 out of 5 people are living upstairs and I fear the signal could drop a lot.I am not planning to run hard drives and use it over wifi a lot. All I want to do is get full download speeds of ADSL2 all day considering few of us could also be downloading. You are most welcome to disregard all of the above given options and suggest new ones.In a nutshell - things looking to achieve-Set up which allows full ADSL2 download speeds upstairs, only 2 or 3 people will be downloading at same time but they happened to be upstairs so would like to have least droppings in speed.-Able to monitor each device data usage - qOs apparently does this, could someone chip in?-Hardware which supports p2p, usenet and doesn't require to turn off and on every few hours!! (dynalink on slingshot)- Also please suggest a modem or modem router which does all this. If you think about it.
