Use spare Fibre router as alternative AP

I have a Spark supplied Fibre modem plugged into my ONT and my broadband is with Spark. Will get model number but it is new as I only recently signed up.

I would like to increase the range/speed of my connection to further corners of my home and upstairs bedroom.

I have a Gigabit GF1V fibre modem as spare. Can I use this? (http://www.energyimports.co.nz/products.html) First product on the page.

1. Can I use the Gigabit fibre modem to extend the range by changing DHCP settings and act as an AP? I would need help and exact settings to change as this extends beyond my general knowledge.

2. Can I connect the Gigabit to the spark modem via Wifi, and then 'piggyback' the connection? Or,

3. Will I have to connect the Gigabit to the spark modem via ethernet?

Alternatively, connect the Gigabit to the ONT, and use the Spark modem as range extender via wifi/ethernet? Not sure technical specs of both/which wold be better to provide an additional AP.

Many thanks.
