IE 10, downloads, and a NAS

I'm sorting out how I want my NAS (QNAP TS-112) to work, and one of the things I'm trying to do is have all downloaded files automatically downloaded to the default "Downloads" share. The first thing I did was to change the location of the Downloads folder in Windows by opening the properties sheet of the Downloads folder (under my users directory), and moving the location to \\QNAP\Download. This works fine. The next thing I did was to open Chrome, and check the default download location. It's pointing to the right place, and all downloads work fine. However, when I change the default download location in IE10 to download to \\QNAP\Download, it doesn't work. Whenever I try to download a file, it gets all the way to 100% and then it says "The file couldn't be downloaded", and I'm just left with a partial download. If I choose Save As when downloading through IE10, and choose a different location on the NAS (such as the Public share), it's the same problem. However, I can download to local files without problem.I've searched online for a solution, but nothing really seems to leap out at me. I'm wondering if there is some security setting in either IE10 or on the NAS which is preventing files from being saved to it from IE10. As a peripheral, but possibly related issue, if I try to run a downloaded file from the NAS, I have to provide the Windows Administrator password, and then provide the login details for the NAS. I have my everyday Windows account set as a Standard, rather than Administrator level (for security purposes), and if I change it to an Administrator account, then I don't have to provide the login details to run files downloaded onto the NAS.It's a bit of a messy issue, but if anyone has any ideas what's going on here, and how I can solve it, that would be great.
