Configuring DSL-2740 router to be an access point.

I have a spare D-Link DSL-2740 adsl2+ router lying around and thaught I would try and utilise it by setting it up as an access point rather than a router. There doesn't appear to be a simple ap mode setting in the router's configuration, I have also tried deleting the WAN parameters and any other internet setup information I could find. The router is set to an unused ip address however when plugged in to the main adsl router no internet or network access is available on my modified router, even though I can connect via the wifi. Is what I 'm doing even possible with this router or are there some more steps I need to take to make this work?
