I am using an HP Elitebook 8560w running Windows 7 Professional x64 (SP1), which originally came with an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 wireless adapter that I replaced with a Intel 7260HMW 802.11ac wireless adapter. The old adapter works fine - the new one does not. After getting a new AC-band router, I wanted to upgrade my laptop PC to use this latest wireless technology (802.11ac). My current system only supports 802.11n, so I purchased an Intel 7260HMW 802.11ac, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo adapter to replace my ~2.5 year old Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300. When I fired it up (prior to Windows boot) I immediately get a HP message saying something to the effect of 'unsupported wireless network adapter detected and disabled'.When I tried to download and install the drivers for the 7260 (from the Intel website) the install operation fails with this error:Error [000006B9] : Error 1721.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Does anyone know if a manufacturer could block the use of certain hardware on their PCs? I thought replacement hardware only had to be compatible with the OS and have an interface that matched the one it was replacing (miniPCIe)...Thanks for your help!
