I have found that different modems are syncing at some times significantly different speeds on the same line.First off when I first installed ADSL with the free technicolor telecom modem that was provided with the connection I was only able to achieve 6.5Mbps down. When I switched this to a fritz box 7340 it was able to get 13mbps downstream.I have now moved to vdsl with a master filter, although the speeds are not much better than ADSL2, I have found some minor speed variances.Fritz Box 7340 is syncing between 15.5/3 (download/upload) and I tried an Innbox Rv51 which i borrowed and this got a DSL sync at 17.5/3.5mbit. I have actually got a DV130 and a microtik to replace the fritzbox mainly because i needed more ports, so am going to try this today. I was wondering if anyone else had had variances in speed over differnt modems.
