Problems with my Ubiquiti WAP "upgrade"

I recently tried to upgrade my Ubiquiti wireless access point for my home office - from wireless n to wireless ac. Not a success. My LAN setup:HFC cable 100/10 Mbps connection, Cisco modem, Ubiquiti Edge router, Cisco smart switch, Cat6 cables, Ubiquiti WAP located in the centre of our single-storey house. Two (Win 10) laptops running wireless n, plus one running wireless ac.The old Ubiquiti UniFi AP (802.11n): Works well and runs cool: with downstream speeds up to 80 Mbps, always above 40 Mbps, does not overheat or become intermittent. To "upgrade" I swapped out the WAP and power injector, using similar settings on the Ubiquiti management software. No other changes. The new Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-AC (802.11ac): When cold - the new WAP reaches full line speed (100Mbps) with no drop-outs - BUT after about an hour it runs hot - with slow connection speeds (below 40Mbps, often below 10 Mbps, sometimes immeasurable with OOKLA or nPerf (freezes).InSSider shows frequent drop-outs (every few seconds) on both the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands when the new WAP runs hot. There are no overlapping WiFi channels. Turning off wireless phones does not help.Suggestions please - should I return the new WAP? Or am i missing something obvious? It's frustrating that a WAP costing three times as much as the old one runs at less than half the speed and is less reliable.
