Community WiFi ISP? anyone done one?

Hi.

I live out in Gebbies Valley... We have good old DSL and its somewhat flaky if you are lucky to get it.

So some of us have started talking and we have come up with a idea about community ISP.Key point here... the local exchange has fiber to it.. i think installed but don't know.RBI is not available here and may never be..50% of the houses have less than 1.5MB and a lot of people work from home around here.we are about 20 minutes outside christchurch and the area is being cut up more and more but the old exchange and copper is getting overloaded.

So what we are thinking is: WiFi from local exchange to repeater site.. then out to houses.we have about 50 houses and about 30 of them are keen to join in and put up cash.So my question is has anyone here done this?is there anything i should think about? How do i go about talking to the right person at Chorus about this?Is there a better way.. something we may have missed? (don't say sat dish)..

I have done a lot of WiFi long range links before and will be getting Go WiFi down here to design the system.

Feed back needed..

Cost wise we are thinking 50K+ at this point (round numbers and depending on the fiber link).
