Hi all,Just after a little assistance with the setup of an ER-X. I've got a pretty limited understanding with them, just enough to do the basics haha. In this particular situation, I've got a HG659 on Vodafone VDSL in bridge mode to the ER-X. Managed to get the bridging setup working nicely, however I've been unable to get the Masquerade rule working to allow the Huawei to be viewed from the LAN side of the ER-X. I've got the Huawei on 192.168.10.1, ER-X on 192.168.1.1. I thought I had this correct, but it doesn't seem to be working (see screen caps below). Have I missed something there?I want UPnP enabled in this case - basically a set and forget setup, where top notch security is not at a real premium - I think I have that setup correctly? See cap below. Also want to double check the correct command for enabled hardware offloading in this situation. I think it should be "set system offload ipv4 vlan enable"? I did try that and got an error, but have run out of time this evening to test it further. Really love these routers, unbelievable bang for buck. Thanks heaps!

Traffic Shaping / Load Balancing?
At my new house have the option of ADSL2+ (10-12mbit) and Skinny Fixed Wireless (Likely 30-50mbit with external antenna) If i were to get ADSL2+ and the fixed wireless, is it possible to link these two connections together and then prioritize traffic over a particular connection based on packets? For exampleADSL2+ ConnectionYoutube trafficSteam DownloadsGame traffic (low ping) Fixed WirelessAll other web trafficAll other downloads/uploads This would allow most things to happen without speed being noticed (Except for steam downloads). What could I put in place to do this?

New Build - Wifi AP placement
I'm going to be building next year, foundations hopefully in December, and I'm starting to figure a few networking details out. I'm allowing for 2 PoE Wifi APs in the house, one in the rumpus and one in the Family room, marked green on the plans. I guess the modem which will be somewhere in the garage will provide wifi enough for in there. I'm hoping the rest of the house will be covered with the 2 APs, one of the Ubiquiti units or similar. Anybody know if this sounds realisitic, and suggestions on what units would work best. Thanks!

Netgear D7000v2 on VDSL
Hi All, Just bought this router from PB tech, and their product page says: "WiFi ADSL/VDSL Modem RouterGet the superfast WiFi speeds of up to 1.9Gbps. Supports ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ and VDSL/VDSL2 with auto detection for Universal DSL support. Compatible with any Internet service provider with via the Gigabit Ethernet WAN port."However the quick start guide says not compatible with bonded pair DSL lines. We have bigpipe VDSL - is this going to work before I open the thing up?Also the PBtech website gets the back picture wrong (showing the D7000), but I presume I can still use this with the coming Fibre connection through the shared WAN/LAN port? Thanks in Advance!

Ubiquiti Edgerouter Lite vs Edgerouter X for gigabit fibre
I'm fed up with having to restart my Spark supplied Huawei router every week to keep my dynamic dns working and am considering upgrading. As per title I'm tossing up between 2 Ubiquiti models, the Edgerouter Lite and the Edgerouter X. The X is cheaper, the Lite is possibly a little bit faster. I'm not doing anything crazy with it just need it to connect me to the internet, be reliable and the standard dhcp/ddns/port forwarding stuff. It'll go into a 16 port switch so number of ports doesn't matter, and I have a couple APs on the ceiling so wifi is a no issue. Can anyone give me any advice on which to pick? best AP point for a reasonable price
We have a fritz box downstairs and in the past that has given semi acceptable wifi upstars (main living and sleeping area). However since our neighbor has got a new wireless router wifi has become semi unusable on laptops. We have a wired connection to the centre of the house upstairs with cat-6 so just need an AP to plug in. I need a recommendation for a stable easy to use AP that I can plug in and get seamless internet throughout the house.Would something like this https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NAPTPL0200/TP-Link-AP200-AC750-Wireless-Gigabit-Access-Point?type=open work or is there something better?Would prefer to be able to pick it up tomorrow as wife is quite annoyed.

Upgrading DSL modem router - advice
I currently have a TP-Link W8960N Modem RouterI've disabled wireless as I have dedicated APs. It does the job ok but struggles when people are streaming video, downloading files and browsing the web. I think it overheats. It needs rebooting at least once a fortnight.Sometimes the whole network has an issue and I have to do a complete shutdown of all machines and switches and then restart the router first, then one switch then one machine etc.I run about 20 devices on a mixed DHCP and Static IP network. They range from desktops, to a NAS server, to RPis to iPhones to iPads to AppleTVs and four TP-Link wireless access points. There are five switches in the mix chained throughout the house. Wiring is CAT5e.Anyway,I am thinking either of these will probably be more up to the job?TD-W9980 ADSL/VDSL Modem routerTD-W8980 ADSL Modem router My logic is that the W8960N is being stretched too far under load (and some forum posts back this up). But I don't want to get something that is too overpowered as I want it really just for the modem capabilitiesWhat do you think?

KRACK - WPA2 essentially cracked.
This is potentially bad... https://www.krackattacks.com/We discovered serious weaknesses in WPA2, a protocol that secures all modern protected Wi-Fi networks. An attacker within range of a victim can exploit these weaknesses using key reinstallation attacks (KRACKs). Concretely, attackers can use this novel attack technique to read information that was previously assumed to be safely encrypted. This can be abused to steal sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, chat messages, emails, photos, and so on. The attack works against all modern protected Wi-Fi networks. Depending on the network configuration, it is also possible to inject and manipulate data. For example, an attacker might be able to inject ransomware or other malware into websites.Note that if your device supports Wi-Fi, it is most likely affected. During our initial research, we discovered ourselves that Android, Linux, Apple, Windows, OpenBSD, MediaTek, Linksys, and others, are all affected by some variant of the attacks.

Good mesh system for FibreX ?
I recently got Vodafone FibreX Max installed at home.I was hoping to install Google WiFi (mesh system) to sort out all the wifi dead spots, but apparently FibreX needs VLAN Tagging which Google WiFi doesn't have (note: I don't really understand any of this, which is why I was going for the Google system for easy setup)Can anyone recommend a good mesh system that works with FibreX, that doesn't cost a stupid amount and doesn't require me to have some advanced qualification in network setups to install? Thanks loads

2Degrees VDSL: Using PPPoE with a Mikrotik router and HG630b modem
Hi all,I'm with 2Degrees for my VDSL (formerly SNAP as far as I can tell but they'd changed before I signed up). I want to move my FritzBox out of the job it's doing as a firewall and router and relegate it to be nothing but a wifi gateway and handle phones.I have my old Spark VDSL modem - an HG630b - which I can get to connect via VDSL to 2Degrees just fine. It works nicely in either bridged mode or handling the PPPoE and routing itself - I get internets.I want to run in bridged mode and use my shiny Mikrotik router - a CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+ - to handle the PPPoE and routing. I have switched the HG630b into bridged mode, bound to eth4 (keeping eth1 for management etc).I have created a VLAN on eth1 on the Mikrotik with VLAN-ID 10, then created a pppoe client connection and bound it to the newly created VLAN.If I run a PPPoE scan on the VLAN, I can see "SNAP-69" and a MAC address, suggesting that it's working correctly, but I can't get the PPPoE client state to do anything other just sit at "Connecting...". When I unplug the phone line from the HG630b it switches status to: "disconnected".My setup:Regular boring ethernet cable from ether1 on the Mikrotik to LAN4 on the HG630b/interface ethernetset [ find default-name=ether1 ] advertise=10M-full,100M-full,1000M-full arp=enabled arp-timeout=auto auto-negotiation=yes bandwidth=unlimited/unlimited disabled=no full-duplex=yes l2mtu=1580 loop-protect=\ default loop-protect-disable-time=5m loop-protect-send-interval=5s mac-address=64:D1:54:E6:EB:F1 master-port=none mtu=1500 name=ether1 orig-mac-address=64:D1:54:E6:EB:F1 rx-flow-control=off speed=100Mbps \ tx-flow-control=off/interface vlanadd arp=enabled arp-timeout=auto disabled=no interface=ether1 loop-protect=default loop-protect-disable-time=5m loop-protect-send-interval=5s mtu=1500 name=vlan10 use-service/interface pppoe-clientadd ac-name=SNAP-69 add-default-route=yes allow=pap,chap,mschap1,mschap2 default-route-distance=0 dial-on-demand=no disabled=no interface=vlan10 keepalive-timeout=60 max-mru= 2Degrees-PPPoE password=password profile=default service-name="" use-peer-dns=yes user=username@snap.net.nzI can't figure out what I'm missing, it seems like this should just work. Does anyone know where I'm going wrong? Many thanks and kind regards, char

PC hotspot software
I know there are lots of options.I am trying to find one that will start up - and run - without any intervention - at boot time. Virtual Router looks really good - would run on startup, but then presents a "what shall I do now" screen. Apparently you can talk to it with some kind of supershell script but that is above my pay grade. Perhaps someone can recommend one from experience?

Using Skinny Wireless Modem as a simple Wireless AP
Moved into a new place and ordered a fibre connection. To tide us over until the connection got sorted, I got a Skinny Wireless modem. Now that we have fibre it is "surplus to requirements"I am wondering if I can set up the skinny modem/router as a wireless access point to improve the WIFI at the other end of the house. I have followed the standard steps for connecting two routers (disable DHCP, assign a static IP Address) and I have connected via network cable from the new router to the old one. I can connect to it's admin console from the computer and configure it. But if I try connecting via it's WIFI, there is no internet access. Has anybody else done this? Is it even possible? Or is the router going to only try and connect to the internet via the 4g network? "Main" Router - Huawei HG65694G Router - Huawei LTE CPE B315s-607 (Trying to set up as wireless access point)

Domain Bandwidth Limit using Router?
Been searching a while trying to figure out how to limit download speeds to a specific domain/website without running all my traffic through a third party. In my case slowing one video streaming site that gets over used here without limiting other video streaming sites. I don't want to block the site completely and don't want to limit the main offending users internet on other sites. Ideally I would use the HG659 router I have to do this if possible, I would consider getting additional hardware if needed and not to expensive. Any help would be much appreciated as no amount of google searching has helped me so far.

Netgear Nighthawk R7000 with Slingshot Fibre
Hey there!Just looking for some advice.I currently have Fibre installed in my apartment with a crappy ISP supplied NETCOMM NF4V Modem/Router combo which just isn't doing the job, when somebody is watching a video it slows everyone down to a crawl.I have the opportunity to purchase a fairly cheap Netgear R7000 Router. I'm just curious as to wether or not I will be needing a modem to go along with this router? I've read other posts that imply with Fibre I won't be needing a seperate modem.Heres a link to the router: https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R7000.aspxI'm based in central Wellington if thats of any importance. Cheers in advance.

Viera smart TV - auto connect wifi ?
Hello.Ive got a Viera wifi/smart TV. (dont ask me the version number, as it took me 20 minutes just to find the brand name - Viera)Spark modem HG659bAnyway, my TV can connect to my wifi network, & get things like Netflix etc...The problem is, that every few days or every day (I forget to take note), i have to spend 10-20 minutes to RE-CONNECT to the network. Is there a way either via the TV or the modem - to remember the settings & as soon as the TV is turned on, it auto-connects to the wifi & if i do want Netflix, I do not need to go through the process of QUICK SETUP - NETWORK CONNECTION (the wording on the tv) each day.

pfSense 2.4.1 and WAN VLAN 10 tagging
Has anyone else upgraded to pfSense 2.4.1 that came out today? I tried upgrading my home connection and the VLAN 10 tagging on the WAN interface doesn't seem to be working correctly anymore, they seem to have messed with the VLAN naming and it wouldn't bring up the pppoe connection to 2degrees - downgrading to 2.4.0 "fixed" the problem. I tried deleting the settings in 2.4.1 and creating them again but it made no difference. The logs weren't very helpful, just saying attempting to bring up the interface and then constantly retrying.
