Hi all, I have one long ethernet cable but need to plug in 2 ethernet devices. What do i need on the end to allow this? Hub or switch? Or is there just a simple double adapter, like you can get for power points?

Anker soundbuds bluetooth won't connect to phone
I have a pair of Anker Soundbuds which I have been happily using previously with my iPhone and recently with my Samsung Note 8. These have been great little earphones, but today they won't make a bluetooth connection. The Soundbuds have a neat feature that stops playback when the earbuds are joined together magnetically, but I noticed that today it continued to play music even when they were joined together. Figuring it was some kind of glitch, I unpaired them from my Note and tried to repair them. But they won't even show up in the list of bluetooth devices. I've tried every thing I can think of - restarted/powered off my Note, made sure the Soundbuds are fully charged, tested them with another device (works on my Surface Pro 3), tested another set of bluetooth headphones with the Note (UE9000 - pair and play perfectly), which suggests that it is a specific problem with the Soundbuds and the Note 8, even though it was working fine until today, and I can't think what has changed. I tried googling for a way to "reset" the Soundbuds, but there's nothing particularly helpful that I can find. Some sites suggest holding down the power button (there isn't one, just a multifunction button which I figure is what they mean) while plugging in the micro USB cable. I tried that several times, but it doesn't work. A few occasions I did notice the Soundbuds appear to be in pairing mode (blue light flashing quickly), but it still doesn't appear in the list of available bluetooth devices on my Note.Any suggestions?

Apple airport VERY slow dowload speed
Hi AllI'm setting up a small Ubiquiti wisp style network, running it all off a 200/200 fibre connection. It's all working well, but I've struck a hitch a one place. An Apple airport extreme being used as an AP is giving dowload speeds in the order of 5 to 10% of the upload speeds. If I plug in directly to the live ethernet port of the POE injector (for a Ubiquiti Nanobeam M5) unit I get 60/60 on Speedtest, which is acceptable. If however I cable connect to either the Airport extreme they have got, or set up an older one I had knocking around, I suddenly get 60ish up but only 5 - 15ish down. I get the same sort of results over the WiFi on either airport too. Both Airports are in bridge mode, pulling an ip address from an Edgerouter x which is feeding the Rocket M5 at the hub of the network.I've tried different ethernet cables to the airports and all the other common causes of issues like this. The fact that I get symmetrical speeds if I connect direct to the POE unit makes me think it is something to do with the Airports themselves, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it might be.Anyone got any ideas??**yes I know airports aren't great as AP's go, but they are better than most ISP provided modem/routers, and yes, I know a Ubiquiti AP etc etc would be aa better solution, but I've got to work with what I've got.**Cheers Andrew

Fibre install help
Hi all, I'm after some help regarding my fibre install in our new house. So basically the electritian and the chorus guys are done and I have no idea how I'm meant to connect it all up. I'm wanting to have the router in the lounge under the tv where there is a lan port. Are the white cables connected to the lan ports in each room? Any advice would be great! Help - Netgear R7800, LEDE firmware, UFB
I just bought a new router, the NETGEAR R7800, and installed LEDE firmware.I intend to have this as the main router and wireless AP, with it connected to the ONT. No other routers involved. My ISP is 2Degrees and I am on 100/20 UFB.How do I go about setting it up to work in this configuration? Currently, LEDE is default with the exception that I have enabled WiFi. By default, it is set to DHCP and so I have the Netgear currently plugged into the ISP supplied router's LAN port (FRITZ!Box 7490) for internet access and to configure the Netgear router.I read that I need to change it from DHCP to PPOE, put in my ISP account information, and set VLAN to 10, not sure if that is absolutely everything, how do I go about doing that? Here are some screenshots of the configuration pages:https://imgur.com/a/I2kx8 Cheers

subtitles over DLNA
Hi all, maybe the topic title is not the best choice but I am confident there are many others who had / have the same issue - maybe there is a solution out there? In brief: I can access shared files stored on a NAS (D-Link DNS-323) and I can play video files (.mkv) saved on the NAS, from smart TVs (a Panasonic and a Samsung) or a new Panasonic Freeview Recorder (DMR-HWT260) but I cannot get the .srt subtitles to work. All video files have .srt file associated. If I play the video files from a PC (using VLC) then the subtitles appear as expected. I tried to replace the .srt with various other types (.sub, .scc, .ass, .xml, .vtt, .rt, svb) with no result. It seems the subtitles cannot get through the DLNA protocol??But: if the Panasonic recorder makes a tv recording of a show with subtitles, I can turn subtitles on/off when I play the recording - even if I play it from a different device (like the Panasonic TV in the sketch below). The Panasonic TV sees both the NAS and the Panasonic recorder as DLNA network servers and can browse through the available files and can play them - but I can only get access to the subtitles for the recorded tv shows in the freeview recorder, no access to the subtitles saved on the NAS from any of the three devices (1x recorder + 2x TVs).Is there any chance that I will ever be able to get this to work? Here is the configuration of the home network:

can't view one computer on the network
I have a home network of two wired computers and a few laptops all connected together by a fritzbox. One of the computers is an HTPC and the other is my main work/downloading computer. Just recently I am no longer able to view or access the HTPC from my main desktop. I can access the main computer from the HTPC but not the other way around. When i log in to the fritzbox I can see both computers, both computers can access the internet and I can ping the HTPC from my main desktop.I am running KODI on the HTPC and I can see the KODI media server. Both computers are running windows 10 both are discoverable. I have tried restarting both devices as well as the fritzboxes. They are both on the same microsoft account. They are running windows defender. I have run network troubleshooter on both and no problems detected.they both have a wired connection directly into the fritzbox The only change to the network was I have added a grandstream AP and disabled the fritzboxes wireless. However the issue came about around 2 days after this AP was added.Does anyone have any ideas?

Affordable router for near line speed IPsec VPN throughput on Gigabit?
This isn't really covered by @michaelmurfy 's excellent router guide, so throwing this open for the masses.Currently in the middle of getting Gigabit UFB into several sites for work, and once we have those connections in place we're going to want start using them. Finding a nice business grade router that can handle those UFB connections is easy enough, but we're really wanting to be able to get close to line speed across an IPSec VPN as well. That seems to be a bit more difficult.. What can people suggest that's going to let me get at least 7-800mbps sustained IPSec VPN throughput for a reasonable price?

Network problem with old telecom '2WireGateway' (model 2701HGV-W)
This motor repair business uses the Telecom (pre-Spark) modem noted above. The business has three computers - two desktops and a laptop.Until recently, all was well - the computers were hardwired to the network via the modem, the Canon printer (connected to the main PC) was shared with all PCs. No probs.Until the main PC crashed and had to be replaced. Here's the weird thing: Now, all three computers can get online (hard-wired, not wirelessly, via the 2Wire Gateway) just as they did before. But now they can't see each other!Note that all three machines have been configured to share in the most free and unobstructed way possible in W7 (without going into a long discourse) via enabling 'Everyone', but they still can't see each other.Note also that the the usual network configurations have all been done, like Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing etc etc.And as I said, each of the three machines are able to freely access the net. They just can't see each other.Hey, I've done this repeatedly with other networked PCs over many years and had no problems. It's my business. But this one has me baffled.I'm now wondering if the antique modem has suddenly developed a fault.Suggestions welcomed :-)

Netcomm NF4V Router Storage Service - Windows can't connect to resource
Hi everyone, I have an external hard drive which, whenever I need to access it, is connected via USB to my wireless router modem. Now since I have the NF4V Netcomm Router I cannot access my storage device. The Windows 10 network diagnose/troubleshooter says:Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (192.168.1.1)It is available but is not responding to connection attempts. A firewall or network security policy on the remote computer might be blocking the connection on port "file and print sharing resource".- In the NF4V settings it says that my LAN side firewall is disabled.- Windows side Firewall enabled/disabled did not make any difference.Does anybody have an idea why Windows can't access my router via the network. I can connect to the router via browser just fine.

Extend WiFi, by connecting WAP's with Ethernet cables?
I want maximum performance, with the widest range, and hopefully a single wireless network name.I just bought two D-Link DAP-1360's. They are the latest release "F".I plan on hooking them both up to a network switch, with Ethernet cables to each DAP-1360's LAN port. One DAP-1360 will be on one side of my home, and the other one on the other side of my home. There will be overlapping WiFi signals between the two.I'm confused on how set up the second DAP-1360.Is the "extender mode" only using Wi-Fi signals, and ignoring the LAN port?

home setup help pls
Is it possible to connect the spark modem (huaweii HG659b) somewhere other that in the distribution box? Currently I have the modem connected to ONT and switch between modem and inputs to 8 other rooms. Will the wi-fi be affected by having the modem in the steel box - and is there a better way of setting up. Two storey house 180sq, with distribution box in the garage at the front. Thanks for any advice.

Ethernet stopped working, Wifi OK
My recollection is that I went out for 3-4 hours (today), came back and the Ethernet connection is no longer working. Wifi is OK.I have an HP ProBook G1, running W10 Professional (and is up-to-date).I have tried the W10 Troubleshooting, including some of these.I don't know the name of the network adapter.I have a NUC running W10 Home, in the same room. Tried switching ports on a D-Link 4 port powerline. The NUC continued to work. Also shutdown, the HP, NUC and NAS and switched off the D-Link Powerline. No change.Tried an Acronis System Image Restore to last nights backup, but still no joy.I don't know what to do next.Device Manager shows:.

PC killing DHCP
So I have a strange situation. I have a HP 6200 desktop (its got an integrated Intel 82579LM NIC) running windows 10 pro with nothing but Plex installed and a couple of shares for transferring files to and from. About every 2 weeks (although its starting to get a bit more frequent) this machine will kill DHCP on the Ubitquiti Edge router. Now I know it is this machine as while this machine is in fault condition even a reboot of the router will not restore DHCP, as soon as I unplug this machine, reboot the router, DHCP works fine. Strangely enough when inspecting the logs on the PC, event viewer events all stop being recorded when the issue starts, then only come back after a reboot, PC is unresponsive until a reboot.I have checked every log possible, both on the PC and router and nothing, I have assigned a static IP address instead of DHCP, just cause I could... every and all updates I can find have been applied, and my googling has revealed much...My first plan is to rebuild the PC from a fresh W10 build, as I did find one web site that said there was an issues when upgrading from windows 7 to W10 on these machines , however as this is already a fresh W10 install I'm thinking that should not apply, but one never knows. So while I will embark on the rebuild, any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, as should this issue persist after the rebuild....

Newbie question reg. switch
I'm a bit of a newbie, so please excuse me, if the question sounds a bit stupid: Our fibre box and router is located in the bedroom. Our TV and Android TV box is located in the living room, approx 8 metres away from the bedroom.Last year, I ran a CAT6 cable from the router to the Android TV box, for a more stable connection.I've recently purchased a new TV, which has got an ethernet port as well.I would prefer not to run two cables.I guess I can have a small switch, where the original CAT6 cable can go in to.And then two smaller CAT6 cables from the switch, where one goes to the Android TV box and the other one to the TV.Is that right? If so, what's the cheapest option?Anything cheaper than this? It has to be 1000mbps, as we get 1000mbps download.https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/SWHTPL1007/TP-LINK-TL-SG1005D-5-PORT-GIG-SWITCH-101001000Mbps

Google WiFi
We've recently had issues with the single D-Link "Saipan" router fading out or slowing down in some parts of the property, plus it also recently started freezing out certain devices....and needed to power cycled to reset it. It felt like a memory leak. Anyway......it seemed to be getting worse. So time for some new tech. I had a $150 gift card for Westfield, so I invested it as part payment for a 3-node set of Google WiFi from JB HiFi. It plugs into the Spark HG659b router. But the Spark router can't be in bridge mode.....it needs to be in IP Routing mode....(and I know there is a memory leak there....so we'll see how that goes). Looks like Google WiFi isn't a full router in it's own right....Or I didn't configure it properlyIt meshes....so I spaced the three nodes around the house, with the primary node being on my UPS. If the power goes out, we can make do with one node. I'm impressed. It's really fast. It's easy to set up. You get a solid signal everywhere and the throughput is even across the property.Downsides.....each node only has one usable ethernet port (unless you use the wan one, too, if the node is a bridged one?). So I bought an 8-port D-Link switch from PB Tech for $58. Cheap, but far from the cheapest. My desktop PC used to connect to Wifi at 468mbps up to 702mpbps on a good day. Now it connects at 866mbps. I have 200/200 fibre and several people banging away on it via wifi....so the traffic separation and extra signal strength feel like goodness. I have set up port forwarding for a couple of services I access remotely. That all goes well. Here's a screenshot of my desktop's connection. Anyone else used Google Wifi? I only installed it two days ago. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Noob Questions - How to get WiFI Internet on my Laptop anywhere?
Okay a bit of a noob question. I have seen those vodem and wifi sticks that you plug into your laptop and get wifi/access to the internetz. I plan to go camping a bit and also end up visiting older friends who dont really have any wifi around. So I often pack my laptop with me where I go and all, not a big user of smart phones. I really rely on my laptop to check my emails and most things. So in such cases, whats the method you use to get one of them sticks or what have you? I read on the right phones (android) you can turn it into a modem and use that to connect your laptop with and go online, saves buying a vodem every once a while? and whats the deal with the small usb sticks that allow internet without any land lines? I was reading up a bit but got confused. Also what are some prepaid options that are not overpriced? Do all of them expire by the end of the month? or is there something where I can buy lets say x GB of Data, and take my wifi data stick with my laptop bag everywhere and connect and be online? data that lasts till I use it, much like prepaid mobile. Needing some detailed info please. :)

Power-line, Circuit Breaker and RCD's

Getting more speed out of a powerline adaptor
I have a set of TL-PA411 but they are currently maxing out at about 27Mbps when my internet connection is 40Mbps. Is there anything I can do to improve my speeds e.g. buy better adaptors? The adaptors I have say 500Mbps on them even though they only have a 100Mbps port.
