Hi,I have a Netcomm NF4V router and (after a lot of messing about wondering why i cant reach my SSH) i've discovered that it has a dropbear_0.46 SSH server setup on it for port 22. I can login to it using admin credentials which is cool but... I'm trying to set up port fowarding to my own SSH server setup on an Asus eebox with Linux Mint and openssh 7.2. It's fine logging in locally on the network, but i want to access it via my public ip. I have set up fowarding for port 2222 and my openssh config to listen to port 2222 just to avoid having the NF4V routers internal SSH get in the way. When i try connecting to my linux box SSH server, I get the error: Connection refused ip 101.x.x.x on port 2222.My questions are:1) Do i need to put the local ip 192.168.1.5 of the server in the DMZ setting as well as in the NAT virtual servers setup page?2) Does anybody know if the NF4V actually supports port forwarding for an SSH server? I talked to a slingshot techie the other day who said that router was locked down to basic internet stuff, but then he didn't know what SSH is and told me to "just reboot the router and keep trying what you want to do" lol.. so i think his info might have been a little dubious anyway. What are others experiences of this? Is there a better router i should get for this purpose or stick with this NF4V thing?3) I can't seem to find any combination of port fowarding that works. I have enabled SSH fowarding with port 2222 in the router security settings page and set virtual servers external and internal ports 2222, but to no avail. I've looked a few guides and they're pretty vague, nothing on SSH for the NF4V. Your help would be greatly appreciated theoriginaltoad

Asus DSL-AC55U slow ADSL speeds on Spark
I just purchased this modem to replace an old TP Link W8690N 2 weeks ago. When I used the Asus modem at that time, the connection speed was fine, but connection kept dropping. I called Spark and they fixed it last week (they said there was a wiring problem on the street side). After they 'fixed' the wiring, the new modem had slow speeds. With the old modem, the ADSL speeds are normal (around 10 Mbps download and 0.9 Mbps upload), but on the Asus modem, the speeds drop to 0.2 Mbps down. The modem reports DSL down link speed of 7769 Kbps. I have set up the modem according to Spark's settings on their website. I thought the modem broke at first, but I have tried it at my friend's house (they also have ADSL and use Spark and also live in Auckland) and it works completely fine and has good speed with the default settings. I also tried different phone jack wires, splitter (we have landline) and another telephone jackpoint, but it has the same problem. I connected my old modem's Ethernet output to the new modem's Ethernet input, with that the speed is acceptable. Screenshots of the settings page: The line attenuation is about 14.5 dB, the SNR margin is around 7.8 dB. From what I understand, the line attenuation is normal but I don't know about SNR margin.I have already had Spark technicians come to my house again to check wiring, but they said they won't help us at all with non-Spark modems. They said the wiring is fine, after they fixed it last week. Any ideas how to fix the problem?

PCIe Wifi Card
HeyMoving flats soon. At my current place i'm fortunate enough to have wired connection for my PC but in the new place I can't.Does anyone have any recommendations for a wireless PCIe card (2.4/5)? I don't do much (if any) online gaming, most of the online stuff I do is youtube (1440p), game updates, cloud backups and general downloading. The router i'll be using is a Fritz Box 7490(?). Connected to that (via wired) is my NAS that I back up to.Any suggestions will be helpful, currently checking out reviews, but would be good to get some firsthand experience. Cheers

Asus AiMesh
Just watched a Linus Tech Tips video (was on Floatplane, not sure if on YouTube yet) about Asus' latest addition to the lovely new world of wifi mesh products.Really nothing different technically from what I can tell at a glance (it's still a craptastic mesh network). But what I thought was cool was that you can use just about any existing Asus router as a mesh device. Just a simple firmware update to get the feature, and then it's all GUI driven to set up the mesh network. They show the RT-68U as one of the routers which I know lots of people have used on here.So yeah, just worth a thought I guess if you want (for some bizarre reasom) to do a mesh network, this could be a cheap option!

Netgear R7000P DD WRT wont connect to internet
Gidday! So i went out and bought an R7000P to replace my Netcomm NF4V router. The Nf4V just doesn't have what i need anymore (VPN, seed box, etc).I am having an issue with getting the R7000P to connect to the internet. and i just can figure out why. I have setup Vlan tagging (Vlan 10) on the WAN port in setup / VLANs. provided my username and password, and set the protocol to PPPoE (according to the settings provided by my ISP). Could anyone shed any light, am i missing something? Is something not set right? Here's what i've gotISP:Unlimited Internet Fibre 100/100The settings they provideYou need your username@unlimitedinternet.co.nz and your password that we supplied after signup.PPP Protocol : PPPoEPriority :0VLAN tag :10 Router:Netgear R7000PDD WRT / Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r35030M kongac (02/19/18)Wired to ONT All devices will be connected via WiFi.Still using the NF4V. How to set up my Neatgear R7000P DD-WRT to work with Vodafone FibreX?
I read that I need to set the VLAN tag to 10 but im still unsure on how to do this properly as there is the 'networking' tab which allows you to set the tag to 10 and then the 'VLAN's' tab which has a list of vlan numbers and ports. Also I am confused about how to get the ISP IP address configured, is it supposed to be DCHP so the modem gives the IP's to the router or do I set it statically?Could someone please share with me how to set up the VLAN tag to 10 so it works with Vodafones FibreX aswell as the correct settings to pull the IP addresses from the modem please? Thanks alot

Paradox IP150 - Register to paradoxmyhome
Hi,I've just bought from internet the Paradox IP150. Everything is configured and working on my network. The only thing that doesn't work is when I try to register the IP150 to paradoxmyhome. In the IP Exploring Tools (version 1.66), I right click on my site name (and the right IP address), Register to ParadoxMyHome and I get the following error mesage:This module is already registered. You can access it atwww.paradoxmyhome.com/Condo_MartinIf you want to make modification to your account, please contact your installer. So I've contacted the seller and asked him to remove the IP150 from his ParadoxMyHome account and he did it.I've also reset the IP150 module (by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds, re-enter all the infos) and still have the same problem. Does anyone knows how I can un-registered the IP150? or how I can register the IP150 to ParadoxMyHome? Thanks

Ubiquiti Amplifi the answer?
I have been looking at the Router recommendation thread: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=197871I current have:1x Huawei HG659, front of house, next to ONT, plugs into, the wired network, provides good wifi in the area.1x Netgear R7000, other end of house, plugs into the wired network, provides good wifi in the area.I do also need a reasonable connection on the far corner of the house though which I am not getting. There is no practical way to run a cable and POE is unsuitable.Potentially a nice clean shared configuration page would be helpful, rather than indivdual ones.I think I need:1x Ubiquiti Amplifi, front of house, next to ONT, plugs into the wired network, provides good wifi in the area.1x Ubiquiti Amplifi, other end of house, plugs into the wired network, provides good wifi in the area.1x Ubiquiti Amplifi, corner of house to complete the house coverage, meshes with other 2, provides okay wifi coverage.Does this seem reasonable? If so, which 3 unit pack would best fulfill these requirements?Do you have an alternative idea?Cheers.

Orcon NF4V behind EdgeRouter Lite as VOIP ATA
I have been migrating from the Orcon router to an EdgeRouter Lite but am having troubles getting the VOIP service working.I have the following set up: Chorus NTU -> EdgeRouter Lite -> Unmanaged Switch -> NF4V This works! But when I remove the unmanaged switch and connect the NF4V directly into the ERL the VOIP status stays down. The NF4V can still ping external addresses including voice.orcon.net.nz.I just don't know what the unmanaged switch could be doing that's making a difference.

Epic Launcher (Fortnite) kills my internet and my children kill me...
Hi Tearing my hair our over this one.I have a fairly normal setup at home. Unlimited fibre from VF with static IP connected via a WRT1900AC with latest firmware (192.168.1.1). Ive tried both a DSL4320 and the VF router in problem solving. Behind that is a domain served by an install of Server2012R2 Essentials (192.168.1.4) which provides the DNS and DHCP. It all works great on the wired five PC's and multiple other devices on WiFi.When I start the Epic Launcher on any PC all the PC's lose connection to the internet. WiFi (non-domain) devices are fine, and can surf fine. No error lights on the modem. Cant access the server via remote desktop. I've tried giving a PC a static address and the google DNS, or the router DNS but no dice. There are no errors in the logs of the DNS on the server.I have googled extensively and no solution is out thee, but other have opined its a DNS issue of some kind. Would value any insights. Regards Ivan

Using Spark Fibre ONT to hard-wire PC
Hi. Please be nice as I'm new and certainly not an expert. I'v tried researching the hell out of this and can't seem to find the right fix.I have recently moved into a brand new house that has a Spark Fibre ONT installed in my garage. I have a multiple port patch panel that I currently have my WiFi Router connected to in the middle of the house. It works great. I'm wanting to connect a couple of devices (PC and Laptop) that sit on the edge of the wifi zone to outlets that are in bedrooms that are patched back to the garage however when I try to connect to the internet the PC can see the ONT but won't connect to the internet. Do I need a separate router for the 'hard-wired' outlets ? I have completed all the basic checks with cables and outlets so I'm reasonably confident I'm asking the right question. I have also checked to make sure the devices don't have a static IP. I can use the wi-fi for these devices however as mentioned its patchy as its on the edge of the range of the router and I have a patch panel so i figure I may as well use it.I feel like I have exhausted the shallow pool of my knowledge and I'm looking for some specialist advice please :)" alt="ONT and Patch Panel"> Many thanks.

Moving from one NAS to a new NAS
I'll be buying a new NAS (Synology) soon, and I wanted to check the best way to move the data from my current NAS (QNAP). The QNAP is a one-bay unit, but the new Synology is a 2-bay, though to start with I'm just going to continue using the single drive (second drive will come later this year). I know I can't just swap the drive out of the QNAP and into the Synology, but is there a better alternative to copying the ~1.8TB of data from the QNAP onto an external drive, wiping my current drive, then copying the data back onto the freshly wiped drive in the Synology?

Cisco 3750 Prestandard POE
I'm a small business and want a decent L3 managed PoE switch to run the LAN. I'm familiar with the 3750 from my IT days and they seem to be going pretty cheaply but I'm not sure about their PoE credentials. Cisco specify their PoE 3750's as "Cisco prestandard PoE".Will it power Hikvision/Dahua PoE Cameras, Unifi AP and Grandstream Phones?

ER-X as InterVLAN Switch - Small Business
Sorry for the new thread but the other thread didn't seem appropriate to ask this. I have a L2 POE switch and an unmanaged switch running in a flat network. I'm about to add Voice to the LAN along with more CCTV cameras and want to separate the traffic.I *think* I need some sort of L3 device to route my VLANs and was thinking of the following topology: Is an ER-X a good way to do this? Will it work? *Edit - made image readable

Problematic bridge mode pppoe on Mikrotik wont come up immediately
Hi I am having trouble with my mikrotik making its pppoe connection. This has been working for months, and for some reason its really slow to establish the pppoe connection, I have both powered off and rebooted the modem 3 times each.Rebooted the wireless bridge, the netonx switch in the middle, both edge switches, and the Mikrotik, and after an hr has still not come back up. I have a crazy setup a repeat my vdsl off a solar ubiquity gear repeater, zyxel b10 modem 10.0.0.40->edgeswitch->ubiquity af5x wirelessbridge link a-> netonix solar switch->ubiquity af5x wirelessbridge link b->edgeswitch->Mikrotik ether2 10.0.0.20 I have an identical link running in a vlan Dv130 to edgerouter that comes up almost straight away. Is there some golden rule of networking I am breaking running bridge mode over 3 switches and 2 transparent wireless bridges. It has been working perfectly, till I unplugged it from the mikrotik and tried to dual wan it using the usg the other connection it's on, I have had it make a connection since. pppoe scan on mikrotik on ether2 its interface picks up nothing. Do I need to put this pppoe in its own vlan also Thanks Jeremy

Noob question I'm sure.... 2.4GHz to 5GHz
Hi Everyone, It's been awhile since I have posted or participated on the forums but I'm in need of some adviceI've just had Rural Broadband installed and the cheap Huawei Router Vodafone has supplied is only capable of 2.4GHz.I have 3x Ubiquiti Wireless APs capable of broadcasting dual band. Will they change the signal from 2.4GHz to 5GHz or will they be limited to only what the Router is capable of producing. I know I could pull finger and set it all up and find the answer for myself but I'm a wee way off finishing the network (Need Switch and Patch panel and terminate the 25+ RJ45 Sockets) so looking for an answer sooner rather than later to see if I need to stretch my budget to cover a better router than Vodafone has supplied.any advice would be much appreciated.
