Hi Is there a piece of software windows appropriate that will stay live on the desktop or toolbar and identify WiFi .... devices? things? that are connected to my wifi?Something simple easy to use please. Obviously it is to identify if and when wifi is being stolen.Thanx

Broadband Routers with 10Gig
Before you answer - while Chorus are completing a trial of 10Gigabit Internet I know that while the majority of us are at 1Gig or slower internet speed....it's not uncommon for us to run a NAS for secure storage of our files, and large 4K or 8K video grow to a pretty large size. Suffice to say some people move a lot of data around their local networks, independent of the speed things arrive from the Internet. It seems the latest broadband routers are offering us mesh, integrating with smart devices, and other cool new offerings - but I can't find any which offer anything faster than Gigabit ports (and none offer port aggregation) for our wired networks....which has been available for about 20 years now. Is it pretty much a given that if you want to run 2.5/5/10 Gigabit local networks you are going to have to go with a separate switch for your network and use your broadband router just for Wifi and to connect to your internet? I know the cost of 10Gig hasn't come down much and most people are probably concerned about maximising their beam-formed wi-fi speeds and range for wireless devices - I'm just a little surprised that some of the most-expensive gaming routers haven't made the jump past gigabit yet....as it is convenient to just have the one device.

Unable to access Fritzbox user interface
I'm trying to setup an old Fritzbox 7490 as an access point, however i can't access the fritzbox user interface page.Trying to connect to http://fritz.box & 192.168.178.1 both fail.Attempting to connect to the emergency IP - 169.254.1.1 as listed here times out.Using the recovery tool from here, auto aborts as it finds a custom ISP config file.I've tried the above on two different consumpters, to no avail. Has anyone else run into these issues? or have any other ideas i can try?

Using spare router as network extender
Main router "A" - Spark Smart router ( The new one )Extender Router "B" - HG659B ( the old spark router )Router A has ip range of 192.168.1.20 - 192.168.1.200Router B Ip is 192.168.1.254 DHCP turned off When router B is connected i am getting the error shown in the photo on every website I go to. I seem to only get the error on my PC. This may be an easy solution but I haven't done this in awhile.

Having a hard time with HG659B with DMZ and Port Forwarding
So I recently moved into a place where they have Spark Fibre with Huawei HG659B for internet. I have a Ubiquity ER-X as a router/switch that I had for the main router device at my last home but I can't unfortunately swap this one with the family I am currently living with. Also, a Unifi AP AC Pro as my AP where I used to run a few Wifi networks for IOT and my main network also a guest network with Hotspot service. In addition, I have a raspberry pi which I use to run Unifi Controller and pihole. I am wanting to access the Unifi Controller and pihole interface from the internet as a basic setup to begin with but I can't get pas the HG659 as it is not letting forward any port nor it is responding to any of the dmz config. The ER-X is currently running on a LAN port of the modem, with it's own internal network - using HG659 192.168.1.0/24 network as it's WAN connection. So, now I have tried all that I could - to put the ER-X in the DMZ, port forward ports to the ER-X and then from ER-X to the Raspberry pi, creating Port Trigger apps but none of them is working. I have tried to check open ports on yougetsignal but they all come as closed. I know that ER-X is responding to the port forwarding requests as I can access the internal services behind it, using it's WAN IP - (the one in 192.168.1.0 range - using HG659's wifi). Can anyone suggest me anything I can do to get this working because I can't think of anything that can make this work inside the HG659. I have tried to run HG659 in bridged mode and configuring ER-X as the PPPoE session but that doesn't get authenticated from Spark as I am not too sure of how that setup might work too.

Netcomm NF4V replacement
Eventually the time may come that I'll need to replace my trusty Netcomm NF4V. I've been using Netcomm products for over 10 years now and found them to be mostly reliable (bar one out-of-the-box failure). This was brought to my attention tonight:https://www.netcomm.com/products/enhanced-hybrid-4g-lte-gateway-nl1901acvA plus for this one is it has cellular data as a backup. Has anyone used one of these? What was the Wifi like? As long as it's as good as my NF4V (or better) I'd possibly be sold on one :)

2.5 Gigabit switches
Hi I am Jason and you might remember me from such threads as I cannot afford 10 gigabit and and why does my cable not have an rj 45 connection on the end.The board that I am using for my unraid server has a 2.5 Gigabit port in it and I have been having a bit of a look around for some switches that don't also contain 10gig ports.Anybody know of any base switches for 2.5 gig that are not costing an arm and a leg.

Mounting switch and Vodafone router in comms cupboard
Might be a dumb question, but how do you mount a switch in the comms cupboard? There are holes for screws at the back of the switch, but do you find screws to fit the holes in the comms cupboard (please see photos)? Also, would like the Vodafone Ultra Hub in there as well. Any way that it can be mounted or does it just have to stand up on top of cables? And finally, is there anything wrong with mounting a PoE switch on the side (so the front is facing upwards)?

Upload speed packet loss and ISP is saying its not on their side, Ive tried troubleshooting everything I could think of.
I've been dealing with issues with my internet for the past 2 months and I've called my ISP (Vodafone) around 15+ times, they are telling me the issue is not on their side and that they haven't been seeing any packet loss or ping spikes to my modem and that their line is "clear", The most my ISP has done is changed a few settings on the line going into my house and changed some settings on my modem Im on a Huwaei HG658C Modem Currently and I live in Ireland.Okay so basically my issue is , I get packet loss and ping spikes at random times during the day. Im a competitive gamer so any sort of interruptions are really frustrating. Let me go into detail of the issue, my ping starts spiking to around 150-250 in fortnite and I get packet loss on my upload speed, during this time my friends also cannot hear me on discord, but I can hear them and I can also browse the internet, so its obviously an issue with the upload speed if I can hear them clearly but they cant hear me, These ping spikes usually last anywhere from 10-35 seconds. This is what my internet set up looks like at the momenthttps://imgur.com/TqITAjoI have spent a lot of time troubleshooting the issue so any help at all is extremely appreciated , I have typed up a google docs file and attached images of ping plotter results on two different computers, and I explain everything , once again any advice is appreciatedhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/13IEgmN-mBVLUcX9OtQi5HCfPpFtU2yxUkbVCpTQCqBs/edit?usp=sharing

Static vs DHCP addressing
Guys, although this 'ere forum calls me a Master Geek, the label couldn't be further from the truth, I'm a luddite. My home network is fibre (Chorus), provided by Slingshot (100mps unlimited), Slingshot router, but wifi is distributed by a Google Wifi 3 box setup. Forgive me if I'm muddling jargon in that description.Sometimes it hums ... >100mps ethernet and around 60+ wifi. Sometimes it just hangs and does nothing, and that includes through a (fairly new) Win10 PC and an old (2014) iMac both ethernet connected into the router's LAN ports (as is the printer). The household (my family) has a flock of devices using the wifi ... laptops, tablets, phones, 2x Apple TVs, an Amazon Echo, etc.Over a few beers about a year ago a mate of mine told me I should set static addresses for the key items, like say the PC, the iMac, the Apple TVs and leave the other devices to fight it out via DHCP. He went on to tell me which sector of addresses I should use ... as I heard it more-or-less partitioning what the router (or it the Google wifi in this case?) is serving up. The impression I got is that there's a better/broader end of the spectrum and to use that for critical devices. It all made sense at the time, but as I say, over a few bevvies - I can't remember any of it.Is this correct? I should do something like this? If so, how? Is there a good guide? Perhaps a thread here?Cheers and thanks folks, Don

Ubiquiti Amplifi HD not getting ipv6 from 2Degrees?
Bought a shiny new Amplifi HD as the Fritizbox was groaning under the weight of all our devices.I have updated firmware etc and it works great off the back of the Fritizbox but if I try to plug it straight into the ONT and put the Fritbox away it refuses to connect to the internet I have the username and password in, set to PPoE, set VLAN ID to 10 and IPV6 is on.Still nothing - won't get an IP.Any ideas gurus?

Netgear ORBI on Vodafone HFC/FibreX
Good afternoon,My VF hub died on me so I thought I would try to install a third-party router to get myself working instead of waiting for an engineer. It's been several days of pain back and forth between VF and Netgear without a solution. I've been told I need a static IP and of course that I don't. It's not been fun.Does anyone know how to configure a Netgear Orbi to work on HFC please? I have a new ultrahub for now but I'm keen to use the ORBI as I'll be movin to a bigger flat very soon.I'm told it might be something to do with the VLAN settings.I've configured home networks before so I would consider myself reasonably competent. Thanks in advance.

How to diagnose faulty fibre?
We have a fibre connection running between the main house and a granny flat which has been working perfectly since June last year when it was installed. On Wednesday morning (about 4:30am based on the network logs) it suddenly stopped working.I ordered a new media converter, and also a new transceiver --- got these today and tried them with no luck, so there goes $80. Also inspected the fibre in the roof and saw no evidence of physical damage --- all the outside fibre is in conduit. What is the next step in diagnosis? Unfortunately don't have $100s to spend...

Weird problem with new Fritzbox 7590 over wireless - one single device on the wireless network can't get IPs from Pi Hole
I've just upgraded my Fritzbox 7390 to a 7590. After a call to 2degrees to get the settings right internet is working fine for my a variety of Windows 10 PCs, WiFi, all Android phones and tablets.Next I configured the new Fritz DCHP to hand out the IP of my Pi Hole for ad blocking. This works fine from every PC on Ethernet, my work Surface Laptop 2 over Wifi, my Android 9 phone, my wife's Android 9 phone, my Android 7 tablet on WiFi.The problem is while my wife's Windows 10 PC can query the Pi Hole over Ethernet to get IPs, it can't get IPs when it's connected via Wifi. It can ping the Pi Hole, ssh to the Pi Hole, and the Pi Hole receives the DNS query, but for some reason the Windows machine doesn't get the reply. I have tried turning the Windows Firewall off, made no difference. The Fritz is 192.168.1.1 (I changed , the Pi Hole is 192.168.1.11This shows the problemnslookup google.com 192.168.1.11Server: piholeAddress: 192.168.1.11DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds.DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds.DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds.DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds.*** Request to pihole timed-outnslookup google.com 192.168.1.1Server: fritz.boxAddress: 192.168.1.1Non-authoritative answer:Name: google.comAddresses: 2001:4860:4802:34::75 216.239.32.117 216.239.36.117 216.239.38.117 216.239.34.117Here's the corresponding log from the Pi Hole for the first nslookup - I can see the DNS query arrives, but for some reason the PC can't see the reply.Mar 20 20:05:38 dnsmasq[528]: query[A] example.com from 192.168.1.14Mar 20 20:05:38 dnsmasq[528]: forwarded example.com to 202.37.101.2Mar 20 20:05:38 dnsmasq[528]: forwarded example.com to 202.37.101.1Mar 20 20:05:40 dnsmasq[528]: query[AAAA] example.com from 192.168.1.14Mar 20 20:05:40 dnsmasq[528]: forwarded example.com to 202.37.101.2Mar 20 20:05:40 dnsmasq[528]: forwarded example.com to 202.37.101.1This works fine on my work PC over Wifi. It works fine on the same laptop over Ethernet. Why is it not working on this one laptop?!Note that I have hard coded the DNS server to 192.168.1.1 in Windows WiFi properties, so I've got it working, but I'd like to solve the problem :)

I successfully used an old Vodafone HG556a as a wifi extender
This is my small contribution to Geekzone diy networkers out there on a budget (maybe someone will find this info useful one day). I found snip its of references to this process already around (some on Geekzone) but no one really reporting success or linking to the following useful specific pages .After a little research I upgraded the firmware of an old Vodafone (HG556a) ADSL modem router to OpenWrt using this page:https://oldwiki.archive.openwrt.org/toh/huawei/hg556a#supported_versionsThen using a laptop cabled to it via ethernet I could configure it quite easily using this basic guide to dumb it down and turn off most things except LAN and wifi, using this link:https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/dumbapI had previously installed a Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC LITE which is great, but a little wasted in my garage/workshop. Now I can redeploy the Ubiquiti in a more used location.Honestly I was surprised the openwrt software worked so well and the process was quite straightforward. One small step for a man...Cheers!

Multiple PS4's on the same network
Hey everyone,Am having issues with voice chat on two PS4s in the same house, have been trying to play Warzone and only one of us can chat, the other one there simply isnt any voice coming through from them (they can hear my voice perfectly)...we switched controllers, headsets everything and both work individually of each other but as soon as we a microphone is detected in one of them, then the other ceases to work. We can play the game perfectly fine, just cant talk to each other!Doing some searching I think Ive narrowed it down to a NAT conflict in the network and tried all the suggestions to get it working...but no joy at all. Ive got a Netcomm NF15ACV (standard default given by ISP) which I suspect is a cheapie and the source of my problems.....Has any one experienced the same issues or got any ideas how we can fix?

Any advantage to combined modem/router?
I'm buying a new home WiFi/Ethernet router. I have a Spark 630b ISP modem serving that purpose. The logical thing is connect 630b with WAN link to the new device. Easier for any ISP intervention required. Unless there is an advantage to a late model combined modem/router device?Edit: I have VDSL.

Thin client slow, but laptop intent speed fine
So me and the gf are working from home, my laptop is working fine over wifi, her thin client is really slow over Ethernet. It's fine art her parents place who have fibre, I only have Ultra VDSL 20 down 10 up. Is that the reason for it to be slow or do you think it's something else?Tried a different cable, no different. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
