Cisco ACS 4.2 handing out single IP address to different users

Hi,

my windows based acs server is allocating same ip address to all users. due to this users are not able to connect. i have deleted and re-added the pool. but it is still doing the same for some pools. also, the web interface does not display properly and i cannot view/change the ip pools assigned under a username. i have also restarted the server but it does the same.

Any assistance is helpful.

OpenWrt vs Pfsense

For a home user, what advantages and disadvantages does Pfsense offer over OpenWrt?

I use OpenDNS family shield on my OpenWrt router and redirect all port 53 requests to the router. This blocks porn but not on google image searches. Can Pfsense filter google image results? i.e. block porn images from search results? I know this setting is available on Google search itself.

I have an adblock installed on OpenWrt

All our emails are web-based so gmail/hotmail filter out the spam.

One computer accessing things one two networks?

This one is a little out of my league.

I have just setup a ispy server at work to run a few different grid camera screens around the building. I have 13 cameras linked back to the cctv dvr channel streams. The DVR is on a separate network (for not business critical gear, laptops, phones) (Network A). I also would ideally like to have two IP cameras in the system that are on the work/business network (Network B).

The computer is on network A currently. I get a feeling that its not as simple as getting a second NIC and plugging in network B?

Edit: Bugga I just realised this would probably be better in LAN topic since its not unique to the cameras. Oh well

Does a WAP + IP Camera product exist?

I'm planning out a new home network. In two separate places, my plans currently show an ethernet cable run to a ceiling mounted IP camera, right next to an ethernet cable run to a ceiling mounted wireless access point. Both POE.

I am picking this is a long shot (since not even page 2 of the google results had anything helpful), but is there an IP camera that can also act as a WAP? I'd save a couple of ethernet runs, but more importantly, could save a few bucks on a smaller POE switch and fewer devices.

I'd rather get two separate decent devices than one junky combined device though.

In need of a mobile wifi/lan router solution

Until recently I've been using a Skinny 3G dongle, TP-link TL-MR3020 and cheap switch to provide local wifi and lan in my caravan. But the dongle has been trodden on and no longer works. Skinny no longer sell them and I can't find another suitable dongle which works in the router, they all need a driver or something in Windows to work.

It's used for eftpos, an ethernet receipt printer and an ipad.

Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement which doesn't cost $$$$'s. This was a relatively cheap solution to a problem 12 months ago and I'd rather not have to bin it all and buy a 3G eftpos unit if I can help it.

DrayTek 2860n configuration for fibre connection

Hi guysI have just had fibre set up with Bigpipe (100/20 plan), and am having some speed issues with my router. I have tested the connection by connecting directly to the ONT with a PPPoE connection and got approximately 100 down/20 up, however when connecting through my router I'm getting approximately 48/15. Any ideas on what could be causing this speed reduction? QoS is already off and I can't find anything obvious in the settings, however I'm definitely no expert so I'm probably missing something. The router is a DrayTek 2860n, all tests being run over ethernet cable on a Windows 10 PC. Any advice would be great.Cheers

What's a recommended Router with WiFi these days?

Lads, ladies. What is a recommended router these days?

I've been using a Linksys E3000 loaded with DDWRT which I suspect is near-death and I may need to get a new router.

Looking for one with good wifi penetration as we have it in a cupboard in our house and the access on mobiles in poor in the office off the garage (which is much like a faraday cage).

Going to put the stock firmware back on in a few days but looking at options if the unit needs replacing.

(2.4ghz works fine when unencrypted.. but encrypted results in the inability for any device to connect to it)

Thanks.

ASUS DSL-AC68U now supports Fibre!

This morning ASUS has released a firmware update that gives the DSL variant of the AC68U a WAN port and VLAN tagging support, Meaning that it will now support NZ ISP Fibre.

For those who have the DSL AC68U, you can now use it the same way as the RT model and have it running if you directly plug it into the ONT without having to bridge to your current modem.

The firmware update can be downloaded online on the ASUS website.

Fibre 200/200 Router Recommendation Please

At the risk of offending the previously posted topic police, I've tried searching on the forum, I really have, and I must be missing something because I can never get results simple enough for my head to understand. It's not laziness on my part, I clearly missed the tutorial on how to get the best out of geekzone. Feel free to berate me, but if you wouldn't mind helping me out first it would be appreciated. The requirement is at the very end of the post, I just thought I'd spend a few lines sharing current state with anyone that likes context.

So, I'm hopefully shortly(ish) moving to a 200/200 Fibre connection. I've been avoiding replacing my existing router on VDSL for a while and it's just got the point where I'm going to have a tantrum. I have the Spark provided Huawei HG630b. It does a great job wired connectivity; regular speeds of around 48Mbps Downstream / 12Mbps Upstream. I'm fortunate to have ethernet around the house s much of my streaming devices are connected that way. Wireless however... well. No matter how hard I try, I don't get beyond 22Mbps Downstream / 5Mbps Upstream.

I've now tried everything, changed bandwidth, channels etc. Whilst I certainly have a range issue due to the house layout, I've occasionally added access points to address that and speed has certainly improved when connecting to them but then I have the on-going challenges of channel management etc. Irrespective of all of theta, I'm waiting for the fibre to be installed before I invest in a new router or even make anymore changes.

At any point I'm happy to add Access Points at other points of the house to extend the Wireless Network. The experience of my house layout is that I need two access points as well as the wireless router in order to provide full coverage and get through the dead spots and all the usual house dramas of nooks and crannies.

So, what am I asking... I want someone to give me a simple recommendation. I won't come back and give anyone grief, simply because I am accepting I'm starting from zero knowledge now, which means any advice I receive will place me an infinitely better position.

This is what I'm after:

1. 200/200 Capable Fibre Router with Gigabit switch and acWifi (Target cost approx: $450-$500) - If it's something that can work on current VDSL connection then I'm happy to buy it now but it isn't a necessity as I've already consigned myself to the pit of wifi despair until fibre lands.

2. Additional acWifi access points (I'm happy to repurpose a router if necessary, subject to my capability limitations, but I just find some of them unreliable when I am trying to configure them as a LAN connected access point alone). (Target cost approx: $250-$300 each) This isn't mandatory yet, I'll see how good the range is of the new device first.

All help appreciated.

older black genius orcon modem / router as an access point or repeater

I recently went from a 30mbps / 10mbps fibre plan to a a 100mbps / 20mbps fibre plan. They sent me a new white orcon modem / router which works great, I was thinking that I might use the older black genius orcon one as an access point or repeater at the back of the house where there is a weaker signal. I found several web sites that talk about this type of thing, but not with my specific old modem / router. All attempts I have made to configure it seem to fail. Is it actually possible to achieve what I was wanting to do? And if so how can it be done?

I'm looking at getting an edgerouter lite and xclaim xi3 AP to upgrade my network for when UFB comes to my street in July. I'm having trouble finding much info on the AP. Seems there's no CLI reference which is a little odd.

Have a very quick question, is 10GBe backwards compatible to gigabit equipment when using a copper link?

I am doing some future planning and would like to start rolling out 10GB equipment for our backbone next year.

Mikrotik RouterOS vs Ubiquiti EdgeRouter EdgeOS

New house = new network project. I've just bought some excellent (sounding at least) Cambium access points, and am now looking at a new router to drive them and the network.

I have decided to go in with both feet, studs up, and totally uberkill the network. At the same time, I am keen to learn something new. From reading the forums, Mikrotiks and EdgeRouters seem to be the not-for-the-fainthearted poison of choice. Each seem to have their own aficionados, but from what I can tell either will be excellent and offer lots and lots of functionality and customisations.

I have learned my lesson (the hard way) about evaluating options like this. My typical MO is to analyse every statistic and function of all options and pick whichever one has the (usually marginal) technical superiority over the others. That has also usually led me to pick the non-mainstream option that results in a technological dead-end or absolutely no support.

I am not a systems/network ICT guru, so won't be taking to this naturally, but I am pretty good at figuring out what I want to do, Google-fu-ing how to do it, then following the resulting instructions. So am keen to see how many other Geekzoners use each option, and any thoughts about which has better/more set up guides and online support. Or is easier to use (though I'm not afraid of a CLI).

Initially this will be on a Vodafone HFC Cable connection. But in Island Bay, so may need to be switched to VDSL if those issues aren't resolved. Fibre isn't coming until 2019 last I checked, but I would hope with this level over overkill not to have to replace everything in 3 years.

I already have a really good Linksys Nighthawk running AdvancedTomato (thanks @michaelmurfy) that I will most definitely be keeping as backup until I am sure everything is working properly.

Design for home network, Router & Switch recommendations

I have read through a number of the posts in this forum and was wanting some recommendations on the following setup for a new house build:

Setting up a central cupboard with all the networking, fibre connection and audio requirements so I'm looking at putting in a 6u or 9u wall rack unit to house the network side of things. Server, home theater will all be stored here.

What I'm wanting to know is what you would recommend as far as Router and Switch as I have been going around in circles and overloading myself on different ideas.

Will likely run some cat6 to wireless AP's in the roof so trying not to get an all in one unit as they are usually not as good I have found.

Router:

Something that is more than suitable for high speed fibre 200/200, I have seen the Mikrotik RB3011UiAS-RM with a faster CPU ( does this make a big difference?) but I don't necessarily need that many ports on a router as I will have 24 ports on the switch. Wanting to setup a VPN with a friends network as well.

The Ubiquiti ERLITE-3 is smaller I would prefer rack mount but this would still tuck away nicely

Switch:

Have been looking a managed switch but wondering if that is overkill for home use, quite like the idea of having QOS setup as there is a lot going on in the home network.

One I have been looking at is the TP-Link SG3424 again I would like recommendations that fit with the whole setup

Hopefully that makes sense, I would appreciate any feedback you have even if its just to say why the hell would you want / need to do that at home, I don't like to cut corners just to save a buck :)

How feasible is 200 mbit wireless in a house?

$

I'm shortly getting 200/20 fibre and I'm wondering if I can get max speed using wireless or not? Currently I have vdsl and an older 802.11n wireless and don't max out my line because the wireless is poor, but the new modem I'm getting supports .11ac 1300mbits wireless so will I get enough real world speeds to max out the connection? My house is a 3 bedroom house so it's not huge, but depending on where the ONT is installed there could be two internal walls between the adaptor and the modem.

Was looking at something like this - http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NETGBM1003&name=Gigabyte-WIFI-Wireless-802.11AC-dual-band-+-Blueto

Otherwise I'd need to start crawling through very very narrow ceiling spaces to run utp cables and that looks unpleasant from the quick look I had.

Wifi to wired

Hi guys,

My flatmate has a device in his bedroom that only gets internet with an ethernet cable. We have a wireless modem in another room.

Does this device also have the ability to receive wifi and output it through the ethernet port?https://www.1-day.co.nz/products/wifi-repeater-booster-300mbps-2

Or is there another device that does this?

Thanks
