HG630b Strange DHCP behaviour

Hi all,

I have just been doing some long needed sysadmin on my home network and thought it might be a good idea to reduce the DHCP allocation range from the default end 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.1.199. This is because I have a number of statically allocated devices starting at .200 and I want to avoid any clashes.

The issue du jour is that when I did this devices that were connected (and whose IP was below .100 ) started dropping off the network and would not reconnect. Rebooting the devices did not help so the finger pointed at the change to the DHCP server. Resetting the DHCP end IP back to close to the default ( initially 1.254, though the UI would only let me enter .1.253) cured the problem.

I can't think of a reason why this would occur though. Surely rebooting the client devices should release whatever lease they had initially and they should just acquire a new one easily. Scratching my head thinking that it might be a buggy DHCP server in the HG630b , but just wondering if anyone might have any insight into this?

Cheers
