I need to mount a couple of grandstream APs on my ceiling. I have solid cat 6 cabled up to the location in the ceiling. I was originally going to just terminate the cable in the ceiling to a wall socket up there and run a pre made patch cable from their through a hole in the ceiling to the AP. But I realise now I'll have to make a pretty big hole to get the rj45 jack through. Is it possible to just drill a smaller hole pull through the cat 6 and terminate the plug with something like this?I've terminated many wall sockets but never put one of these plugs on. Ideally a tool less option would be best as I don't have a clamping tool (or whatever they are called) for this specific job. I only need to do it for 2 (at this stage). Or am I better just to stick with my original plan or running a patch cable from the AP through a hole in the ceiling? And if so, whats a good way to tidily cover that hole? Some kind of white rubber grommit?

Draytek 130 slower than Spark HG659b
I've recently moved from fiber zone to ADSL zone, so trying to optimise the home network as much as possible. I have a USG, US-860W and UAP-AC-PRO, so figured the Draytek 130 was the best option for a PPPOE -> PPPOA bridge modem. The ADSL sync speed has dropped fairly significantly in terms of % from 14mbps down to 12mbps (even the Chorus website now shows Current Speed: 14mbps). Is this expected? Is the Huawei HG659b sync better as it's Broadcomm? Are there any other tweaks I can make on the Draytek to get the sync higher?

Router keeps disconnecting from WAN
Just got Stuff Fibre today and while I wait for their router I'm using an Orcon NF4V Firmware GURNV5.OT132A-8-NC.Orcon-R5B032.ENFor some reason the router keeps disconnecting from UFB. When this happens, the WAN and LAN1 lights on the router and ONT stay on.Rebooting the router works every time, but then in a few minutes I disconnect again. 2nd attempt posting this as I lost connection.I think the issue is more likely with the router than the ONT

Grandstream GWN7000 DNS rebinding affecting PLEX
Ok, so I have my new grandstream router up and working, but I'm having a problem with my PLEX server. I think it is to do with DNS rebinding as per here, as I can no longer direct connect to it securely. I had the same issue with the fritzbox but it was easily fixed by adding plex.direct to a box and it fixed it. From what I can find the way to change it on the gwn7000 is to go hereand add a line to the DHCP options - rebind-domain-ok=/plex.direct/but that just breaks the internet. Anybody got any suggestions here? I don't even know what DNS rebinding is, so I'm a little out of my depth.

Help picking parts for structured cabling setup
Hi all, we're about to get Fibre, which is awesome, and also will be doing some renovations to the house in the near future and I'll be able to run cable here there and everywhere, so it seems like a good time to finally get a proper rack/cabinet setup, and ideally before we get Fibre, so nothing relating to that needs to be moved down that track. Currently I've got a 24 port Dynamix CAT6 patch panel, and a bunch of gear (modem, router, NAS, ATA, Switch, POEs etc) all sort of sitting on a shelf in the linen cupboard.... I was initially looking at a 'proper' 19" rack like the Dynamix RWM9, but the more I think about that idea, the less I like it, as it takes up a lot of room, and there's not actually much room inside for stuff that's not rack mountable. So I'm now thinking about the Dynamix HWS-4204V2 FTTH Enclosure, the patch panel I already have will mount nicely up the side with some brackets apparently and there should be enough room to mount everything. With a bit of a searching here I came across a thread from @snowfly who has pretty much the exact setup I'm looking at and I've got a couple of questions... The mounting brackets and shelves - I see the brackets on Dynamix's site, but not the shelves, the shelves look mint. Are they something that has been custom made, or am I not looking hard enough for them? From the image in that thread it looks as if the shelves clip into those brackets. For mounting equipment inside the cabinet, can a 'standoff' kit or something be ordered to work with with all the holes that are already in the back of the cabinet? What is the normal way of mounting equipment tidily inside those enclosures? Thanks heaps!

Using existing telephone cable / jacks for ethernet?
Houses in NZ from 2000 is that with a 6 wire RJ-11 telephone cable? Or is it just 2 wire? I know someone who asked if they can used for ethernet by adding a extra access point to improve Wi-Fi coverage. They are currently not used, they are telephone wires, ethernet needs point to point. So it's possible for an electrician to use one at the lounge and use the other at one of the bedroom without pulling apart walls and redoing the cables? Cheers.

UBNT Unifi USG Speed Test > NZ site to replace their one with?
HiThe Unifi controller software has a built in speed test pointed at a server on their network, as a result it shows a higher latency and lower speed through put than actually achieveable. Do we have any local NZ ones that would work with it? If not, I can deal with it but OCD tends to make me want it to be more local.CheersChris

ASUS DSL ac55u and Firestick incompatibility
Hi all,A friend of mine has an ASUS DSL ac55u connected to ADSL2 from Unlimited Internet. When she plugs her firestick into her TV, the wireless connection drops on both 2.4 and 5Mhz and is unavailable to all other devices. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Is there a setting on the DSL ac55u that I'm not aware of? Thanks in advanceMike

Is one wireless access point adequate (Cambium e410)
Having a house built soon. Will one wireless access point (Cambium e410) be adequate?https://www.cambiumnetworks.com/products/wifi/cnpilot-e410/It states that the range is 180m.As you can see, it's not a big house. Only 146m2.Also, this might be a dumb question, but would it be best to have it installed in the ceiling on 1st floor or ground floor?

New to Home networking
I am new to home networking.I have already connected 2 pcs (wired) and a laptop and a 9" tablet (wirelessly) to a hg659b modem supplied by vodafone in my house.I have several pcs (networked together) out in the workshop which is about 15-18mts away from my modem (as the crow flys).I am considering two options for connecting the "workshop" to the "house".Firstly, connect the "workshop" pcs via cable to an rta1025wv6 setup as a wap and have the hg659b 'look' for the rta1025w. I am using an rta1025w as it is what is available at the present moment.Secondly, put in a wireless ethernet card into one of the "workshop" pcs and then networking the other "workshop" pcs to it. Then have the hg659b wirelessly connect to the "workshop" pc with the wireless ethernet card.Unfortunately connecting the "workshop" to the "house" via a cable is not an option.Any help (or criticism) would be greatly appreciated.TIA

Help - Upgraded from DGND3700 to DSL-AC68U - Having "Modem Hangups"
Hi ,As per the title I upgraded form the DGND3700 to the DSL-AC68U and have come into the issue where i am getting "Modem Hangups"I have played around with the DSL settings they are below, this was set to ADSL2+ and this had massive CRC errors now that I have changed this to ADSL2 it seems to be working better but still get the modem hang ups. This is highly annoying because I thought I was doing the right thing too make my WIFI better but the disconnects are horrible.I changed the settings below to help from this forum but still don't know if this is the best settings.DSL modulation ADSL2ANNEX Mode Annex ACountry DissabledDLA EnablesSRA EnabledG.998.4 EnablesADSL SettingsStability Adjustment stays around 6dBRX AGC Gain Stable ESNP StableBitswap EnabledDownstream Upstream TCM(Trellis Coded Modulation) On OnSNR Margin 6.0 dB 6.4 dBLine Attenuation 29.7 dB 18.9 dBPath Mode Interleaved FastPathInterleave Depth 16 1Data Rate 9554 kbps 1005 kbpsMax Rate 10316 kbps 1069 kbpsPower 19.5 dbm 9.3 dbmINP 1.5 symbols 0.0 symbolsINP-SHINE - -INP-REIN - -CRC 0Router Logs: https://pastebin.com/skPZ8s2S [Mod Edit: Murph - Uploaded logs to Pastebin, formatting]

Switching from DHCPD to DNSMasq on Unifi USG
Anyone done this? It's still listed as beta on the 5.8.24 controller.I assume any static entries in the config.gateway.json need to be removed and recreated in a dnsmasq.conf fileThe whole force provision and fiddle with the json file is annoying, so being able to configure a mac, host, ip in a single dnsmasq address entry is preferable.

Fritz blocking some websites?
Hi all -I had to factory reset my Fritz box today and the auto configuration failed from 2degrees for some reason. I've set everything up correctly but I've noticed now that some websites are blocked for some reason. For example I was wanting to look up a MAC address and Googled 'MAC address lookup' and the first result was https://macvendors.com. Visiting this on my computer throws up a "site cannot be reached" (ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT), pinging the site times out but visiting the site on my phone which is also with 2degrees but on 4G allows me to see the site.So clearly the modem is configured incorrectly and I'm guessing something to do with DNS? Another weird examnple: I just Googled "2degrees DNS" and while this page works: https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/help-and-support/broadband-and-landline/your-modem/set-up/ , the link below the video where it says "See more" doesn't.What the hell!

Opening Ports on my Modem
Hi Guys.I've spent ages trying to work this out, searching forums and google etc.At my work we have a Polycom Video Conference system; and HDX 7000. It's worked well in the past, but recently our modem has been reset and it has not worked since! All advice I've been given (and also from the equipment suppliers) is to open the appropriate ports. (image attached) But I cannot work out how exactly to do this properly. so any help is very much appreciated. We have an orcon modem, and I can go to the NAT page in the modem admin interface and open inbound ports. But I cannot see how to open outbound ports (or do I even need to do this?) I also get the message "port 30005 must be omitted' when opening ports 10024 - 65535.sorry if this doesnt make much sense! Thanks heaps.Matt

VPN over CGNAT
Hi All,I am struggling with this one.I have a client that has an office in Auckland and they have several users who remote in from home on occasion to access their desktops / network drives.A few users have got the Spark wireless broadband at home that is obviously GC-NAT.I cant for the life of me get a L2TP or PPTP VPN to connect. ( I know PPTP is less secure but just want to get them working )I know they can apply for a static IP and that is an additional $15 per month but I would try and find other means of possible. Most devices are W10 pro 1803 and just using the built in Windows VPN client. At the Office they are terminating to a Cyberoam UTM.I have seen on Geekzone people say to use a VPN, are they referring to a site to site VPN rather than a dial in VPN?Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?John
