I have used this in the past and has worked perfectly but now my FritzBox 7490 won't save DynDNS information. After entering correct account information and clicking submit, information stays there but if I navigate to some other screen and come back to DynDNS page it's blank. I have tried other providers as well with no luck. Anyone else had similar experience or can advise what is going on here? I reset my router after the recent OS upgrade as I wanted to clear everything and now this won't work. It did work fine until I reset it. If I restore to an older backup then I can see the dynu information saved in there and it works but if I attempt to change to a different provider or turn it off, keeps reverting back to dynu settings.

Structured Cabling - Question about recessed wall mount install & ideal thermals
Hi All, I plan to install the below wall mounted recessed cabinet for a DIY data cabling project for my house." alt="">" alt="">Can i install this on 600mm studs? (Drill one side of the cabinet to the stud and leave the other side?) Or does it make the solution too janky? I'm planning to install this in the garage which does get pretty hot due to the afternoon sun hitting it. (About 40+C during summer). Would the garage location be too hot for the equipment in this case? (ONT, Switch, Router)? How are the thermals for this cabinet vs wall mounted cabinet below? Some insights would be greatly appreciated

Help needed Huawei B315s stuck on 4g only
I have bought a Huawei B315s router from a lady that used it with her Spark plan. I live in a rural area and need the 3G network to work. For some reason though, the modem is stuck on 4G only and I don't know how to change that. The other options that usually appear with this modem (2G, 3G ecc) aren't there. How do I fix this? I am assuming Spark has done something to the modem to lock it on 4G only? Can I remove that woth an update or something? Thanks a lot!!

NFV4 -- can't address hosts by name
Hi all,I have an Orcon-supplied NFV4 router. The trouble is, I can't address machines on my LAN by name. Names are visible in the DHCP status screen, pinging or browsing or whatever by IP number works fine, but for some reason doing any of those by name doesn't.I've tried addressing machines as "name" and "name.home" and "name.local" and such-like, but no joy. There is a setting in the router config for the local network name (defaults to "home"), and I've tried fiddling with that, without success.Netcomm NFV4 User Guide is useless. :(Any ideas on how to get this working properly?

Powerline adapter or Wi-Fi?
I have a slightly unusual setup- our ONT is in the garage and I use a powerline adapter to bring the UFB network to our Ftitzbox 7490, which is downstairs in the living room and on an island wall that does not touch any other wall. It goes:UFB>ONT>Powerline>Router>Wifi/LAN We have recently put an Xbox in the study which is upstairs and far away from the wifi, and not receiving much signal due to floors, walls and cupboards. Unfortunately, we can't put structured cabling in anywhere. My question- can I use a single additional powerline adapter to bring wired LAN from the router to the study? Or is the existing adapter on the wrong side of the router? I don't want to trail another network cable to a fourth adapter as the router is not near any other power circuits I can use. I assume there is nothing on the ONT itself I can use either. Alternately, I have an old N-class router. Could I use that as a bridge, would that be worth my time? Otherwise, what wifi range extender would be good bang for buck here? Thanks in advanceJon

Free Community UniFi Cloud Controller
I understand that for some of you getting into UniFi gear is a bit tedious because of the controller... Not anymore. Thanks to the kind folks at NexLevel Business Solutions (and @chevrolux) for donating a virtual machine I've now fired up a free UniFi controller for the Geekzone community to use.The server itself is managed by yours truly, I do have a fulltime job so will manage it in my spare time. This is intended for home/small business use. It is running the latest version of the UniFi controller software behind a nginx proxy hosted in AWS. Pricing for UniFi products is available Here.Setup:You'll first need to register for the UniFi portal. Please send me a DM with the following details:Name: Your NameEmail Address: Your email address (I need to be able to send you a registration email)Once you're provisioned you'll be able to set-inform your devices, you'll be granted temporary rights with the ability to accept devices into your portal. If you have more to add at a later date just flick me a PM and I can grant access again. Remember to do a set-inform twice once more once you've hit adopt in the controller to confirm the add.UniFi Access Points:Make sure that the UniFi is not adopted to any other UniFi controller before proceeding - if it is then you'll need to factory reset it. If you're running an Edgerouter you can almost skip all these steps and look at this post.Once you've opened up your shiny new UniFi access point and got an account on the UniFi portal you'll need to inform it. Plug it into your network first off and download / install the UniFi discovery tool (Chrome Extension) - there will be instructions here to inform it (but this is not working for me - typical...) however it essentially involves clicking "Manage" beside your access point and informing it to http://gzunifi.nlb.nz:8080/inform using the default user/pass of ubnt/ubnt. You need to run the inform twice - the first time to make it show up under devices in your portal and the 2nd time to accept the inform (when you've hit adopt in the portal). The manual way when the tool doesn't work is to grab the IP address of your UniFi and SSH into it. Using Putty (Windows) or the SSH command (OSX, Linux) SSH into your access point with the username "ubnt" and password "ubnt" and run the command "set-inform http://gzunifi.nlb.nz:8080/inform" and you should get a response back. Note step 2 of the instructions that you need to do this twice when you've clicked adopt in the portal.USG:This is just like the UniFi AP however you need to ensure you've got internet connectivity to the USG first (via WAN1) - navigate to https://192.168.1.1 first to connect it to the internet then run the set-inform on it. You'll need to run this twice (when it is in the adopting stage in the portal) for it to be accepted.Note: To save you time adopt this first then simply plug in your other devices once it is adopted. Your other devices will automatically inform to the cloud controller pending adoption. It can be a tad annoying to get the USG on VLAN 10 required for most UFB providers and FibreX - if you're with Voyager you can ask them to turn off VLAN however with other ISP's I've found this to be the easiest way to get around this:1) Get your old router and set it to an IP range that is outside of the UniFi's - I use 192.168.10.0/242) Plug your USG in, set it up with DHCP in the internet options and adopt it to the controller.3) Once it is online in the controller - set your ISP settings w/ VLAN. As it is provisioning the USG will go offline, give it a good 2 minutes then plug the USG into your ONT / Cable Modem.4) Success - it should come online. If not, you'll need to factory reset and try again.Tuning:The settings I recommend for the UniFi AC access points are the following:2.4GHz - HT20 (20MHz) (unless if you live in the middle of nowhere with no other WiFi congestion)5GHz - VHT80 (80MHz) AC models only otherwise 40MHz.Channel / Transmit power on both set to Auto.Band Steering - Prefer 5G (AC / dual radio UniFi AP's only).Airtime Fairness: Turn this on.Disclaimer: this is a community project. Uptime is not at all guaranteed however in the event it does ever go down for a period of time your networks will still stay running as normal. Backups are made by the server on a daily basis off-site and community-based help is available in this thread. Approval to the UniFi controller is based on users having at-least 10 posts on Geekzone, introducing themselves in the Introductions thread, actually being a member for a period of time and on my general approval - do DM me anyway as there are some exceptions to this case.I do also monitor the uptime here: https://uptime.murfy.nz/ There is also a post on the general security of this here (or below).

VLAN tagging and Google Wifi
I recently got Google Wifi and had it all set up on my network just fine, connecting through a D-Link Router on Voyager fibre. I asked Voyager to disable VLAN tagging so that Google Wifi could connect directly to the ONT.That's all done and it works perfectly fine.My question is: What's the risk/benefit to having VLAN tagging enabled or disabled. Couldn't find much online about this.

Asus Router iOS app does not show real time traffic on dashboard
Can other please confirm? Android app shows traffic on dashboard but iOS app doesn't . Another thing is if you click on the dashboard it takes you to a other page Traffic Statistics where Internet (WAN) has no data but Wired LAN and Wi-Fi shows data. Shouldn't Internet (WAN) also show traffic data?

Has anyone got Netgear Orbi working with Orcon?
I recently switched to Orcon from Bigpipe and I can't get my Orbi working as a router. Currently I've got the Orbi in AP mode connected to the Orcon-supplied router. This works, but I'd prefer to just use the Orbi.I tried the settings listed on the PBTech page but no joy.Has anyone got it working? Thanks.

Vodafone wireless router, 2.4g and 5g
Hi all,After playing around with my wireless router which has two connection options I have found out that the 5G connection is much faster than the 2.4Gconnection, I am a bit disappointed it has taken me so long to find this out as all our devices have been connected to the 2.4G connection for the years we have had this router but that's OK!I found this out by downloading the speedtest.net app on my phone and comparing the speeds of both connections on my phone, the 5G was over twice as fast! so we have now connected all our devices to the 5G connection, but for some reason my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L750) does not detect the 5G connection, it only detects the slower 2.4G connection. Does anyone know why this is and if there is something I can try to get my laptop to connect to the 5G connection? Thanks!

Extending Vodafone Ultra Hub
Hi there, My parents have a VF Ultra Hub and want to extend their WiFi further outside to serve their WiFi (2.4GHz) speakers. I've done some reading on GZ and I realise I have a few options:- WiFi Extender- Second AP, wired into host. (This is likely hard to do as I don't want to do internal wiring)- Mesh Network (Google WiFi or Ubiquity. any others?) The property is quite large, and multi story. The UFB and Router are on the ground floor of a 5+ bedroom home.I think I could probably get away with an Extender, or Powerline + Extender but I don't really want to spend the $ and then find out it doesn't work well.Has anyone been in a similar situation and can share their experiences + advice?Cheers

Upgrade from ASUS DSL-N66U?
Hi There,I'm about to have fibre installed (been waiting seven years, I only live in Sandringham(centralish Auckland)!) and I'm considering an upgraded router.I currently have an ASUS DSL-N66U which is located centrally in our house, and I find the WIFI coverage patchy on the extremities of our house - e.g. in the study or bedrooms. Is there an all in one router out there that will provide better WIFI coverage than what I've already got? Is there another option that I haven't considered? Thanks in advance for your responses.Dave

Existing router or Google wifi in new house
Ok, So I am moving house in the near future, which means a chance to reset up my networking needs. My old house had VDSL with an ASUS DSL-RT68U, this was my only wifi point, most users, TV Playstation etc used ethernet via network switches. This was a 1 level 4 bedroom house. The new house will be 2 level and 5 bedroom, further spaced. This house also has a Fiber connection. Now do I keep my current ASUS router, or do I go Mesh now with google wifi (or alternatively Asus Lyra or Linksys Velop). Your thoughts?

Pfsense / 2degrees set up - help...
Hi,I am assuming someone has set this up successfully. I managed to get HP t620 Plus thin client so thought I would have a tinker with pfsense.I am having real problems getting it going though, I've read through most of the guides but am struggling to work out why the pfsense box seems to not be letting any traffic through at all.So the steps I took in setting it up and followed the guides that seem to point to the same thing.Adding a vlan tag of 10, setting up the pppoe and linking them.Adding that as the WAN interface.I can see that the WAN is connected and picking up the IP from 2Degrees. I can see that PFsense has internet because it was able to update and grab new packages etc.I can connect to the web interface of pfsense through the LAN but any traffic from the LAN that should be routed through pfsense just goes nowhere.Any hints ? I must be close....

Campervan connectivity options
Hi,A family member has recently brought a small 2-berth campervan as part of their retirement plan and is looking for options for connectivity on the road. They have a smart phone, laptop, chromecast and TV (satellite TV and radio). Their current solution for connectivity on the road is tethering to their phone and would like a better solution.I have been thinking of setting up a wireless modem, router and AP so that they can essentially use their devices independent of the phone and so that it can be powered of the 12v camper supply. The plan is to share their 2degrees data with the device so no extra plan is needed. The equipment will be stored in the bulkhead of the camper so is likely to be subject to quite a bit of vibration and heat.I've considered:Huawei B315 (or similar)Pros: cheap, reasonably easy to setup, external aerial compatibleCons: need to play with power for 12v, bulkyishTP-Link M7350Pros: relatively cheap, small form factor, runs of USBCons: no external antenna, not particularly robustTeltonika RUT240Pros: robust, multiple wiring and voltage options, looks to have best antenna set-upCons: more pricey, not heard of them or used them before.Other?Any thoughts on any of the options, or viable alternatives? Thanks in advance.

Netgear D7000 no wifi/internet
Hi there,I have a Netgear D7000, it is fully up to date but wifi doesn't really work, it sometimes does but then I have no internet. It use to work last week but now it won't work at all. What do you think it could be? I am with Vodafone and have been having a lot of issues with this and another router at my other place. Has Vodafone stopped internet on 3rd party routers because last week my Asus one stopped connecting to the internet too, seems too much of a coincidence. Thanks any input would be awesome. Thanks
