SophOS UTM SSL VPN connection to a Cisco Firewall

Currently I'm using a Cisco AnyConnect desktop client to connect to remote firewall in Japan and that works okay but does not provide me the requirements I need.So as a proof of concept I've install SophOS UTM on a ESXi server and I want SophOS to route certain traffic from the LAN over the VPN to Japan. How do I do this??? Google search is not quite coming back with the answer I want. All I have is Username, password and an IP Address which I use to access the VPN in Japan.NOTE:I do have a SonicWall firewall NSA 240, but is does not handle SSL VPN as a Client. The staff in Japan do not speak English (and I don't speak Japanese) so it's a dam near impossible to get and help from them [Japanese].Am also trialling out pfSense as well, but do like the rich GUI of SophOS.Thanks in advance.

Creating a Custom 'POE' External Network

I am setting up an Outside IP CCTV network opting via Ethernet rather than WiFi. The cameras are not POE. I will be looking at 4-6 x 12v Sricam IP Cameras (running between 1A-2A per Cam) & 2 x 12v IR LED Illuminators.Power will be provided from a 9 port 12v DC power supply distribution box (each port fused for 1A or 2A.Network will be coming from a managed Netgear Switch.Cable used will be Outdoor FTP Copper AWG24 Cat5e.The power being delivered will be 12v up to 2A with no single length exceeding 10m MAX,The questions are...>What is the maximum Amps you can send though a CAT5e Cable before causing issues? (off the shelf POE injectors seem to run up to 2A @ 5V and 1A @ 12v)>Assuming the max amps is high enough, would there be any professional foresight into the concept of manually creating a form of 'POE' using FTP CAT5e cable? (So both ends have a RJ45 connector for data with one end having a Male 5.5x2.1 DC adaptor and the other a Female 5.5x2.1 DC adaptor, Why? you may ask, to remove the need to 'X' amount of POE spiltters installed externally (I want to keep IP66 junction boxes as small as possible))> If all of that makes sense (Brill), would the static created from the power running through the CAT5e prevent this from being possible? (the CAT5e I have chosen contains an ESD wire)or, does this all sound far to 'out there' and I'd be better off running out two lines per cam, one power, one data? For those that need a visual of what I mean with my cable set up, I am making one up a test patch today and will upload a photo once done.EDIT - I will be using T568B wiring on 802.3af Standard 10/100 mode B with DC on spares. so...Pin1> W/O stripe - Rx+Pin2> O Solid - Rx-Pin3> W/G Stripe - Tx+Pin4> Bl Solid - DC+Pin5> W/Bl Stripe - DC+Pin6> G Solid - Tx-Pin7> W/Br Stripe - DC-Pin8> Br Solid - DC-Thank you in anticipation,

Is it possible to do this?I am after using a Mobile Wifi router to provide a CCTV option in an off grid area. The device uses my Carriers network via SIM card to access the internet so there are no hard lines going into the device. An external IP address is available. The inbuilt firmware/software of the device which is accessed via a browser on the same network. the only options are DMZ and NAT. There is no Port Forwarding options provided (the firmware/software is that of my carriers and NOT the OEMs.Does anyone know if there is a way around this at all?that includes via 3rd party software/ sites.Thank you in anticipation.

How to HG659B as an AP only

Have spent a few hours on this matter with no success. Would appreciate your wisdom and experiences. I use VB104W (slingshot modem) to connect to the net and intended to use HG659B as an access point. It worked well when I had an Airport Express but no luck with the HG659B. I put the HG659B in Bridge mode (under INTERNET-TR069-ETH-VID-10) and the status shows "connected". Even though, there's no Internet access. Am I missing something?

Cat6 cable brands/differences?

I'm looking for a couple hundred meters of cat6 to wire around my house but have noticed that there's a big difference between the prices of the stuff on TM. Is there a basic principle i'm missing which differentiates one solid core twisted cable with another? If so, what brands are recommended? Is there something special I need to look for if the cables will be attached under a house rather than in a ceiling?

Problems connecting router (WNDR3700) to Modem (HG659)

I'm making the connection between the internet port on my old WNDR3700 router and a LAN port on the new HG659 modem. What am I doing wrong? This is how things worked with the old ADSL modem ... (same ethernet cable).I've tried rebooting the router. The LAN indicator LED on the modem (port 4) is green (good). The LAN indicator LED on the router (port 1) is amber which indicates a slow connection (10 - 100mps). This shouldn't be the case, it's a gigabit router (via ethernet) and the cable is cat-6.Why am I doing this? I need to temporarily use the router as a switch to connect existing data cables into the new modem (which is in a different location). This only has to work for week or so - not worth investing in a switch.

Home Modem and Router Setup

Hi all, Hope some of the expert or experience network Geekzone members can help with my questions. My home network set up currently with main VDSL2 modem router downstairs and LAN powerline up to a router upstairs. It's currently working great but recently I purchased Seagate personal cloud NAS drive. The way it set up now the main modem and router upstairs work in different domain/subnets and therefore for the NAS only visible in the main modem domain and none of the upstairs devices can't see the NAS drive.Could anyone advise provide a great link for me on:

How I can set up the router upstairs to be part of downstairs modem/router domain/subnet

Whether this is the best way to set it up without degrading the current network performance as currently it's working great

Thank you in advance :)

QoS specifications --- Telecom HG630b QoS

Hello world!I use Telecom HG630b router, and I am having some problems filling out information for the QoS (Quality of Service) section. I have recently decided to use this feature, as my brother streams a lot of anime in my household, and I play a lot of online games. I am experiencing game changing lag (200-2000ms) when I am used to playing with a ping of around 100ms.My solution of choice is to use the QoS feature to split the bandwidth priority evenly among our computers, and I understand that my router can indeed do this. The idea, (for those of you who don't know) is to essentially "throttle" the bandwidth when it reaches certain limits. The end result should be that my brother can still stream his movies (albeit with some delay) and I can still play games with minimal lag.So I have found the section in the "Telecom HG630b Home Gateway" under advanced called QoS. I have done a lot of research regarding how this feature works, and I am certain that with the right specifications, I can allow myself (or deny my brother) enough bandwidth. The problem is with what exactly I need to enter into these forms:First Pagehttp://imgur.com/zObGA2WSecondPagehttp://imgur.com/qrqnUyE...I have seen youtube videos demonstrating how to edit this information for different routers, and as such I am unable to use that information to help me. I have read user manuals for this exact router that do not have any specific advice for how to fill out these forms, only that they exist. Please help me world. I am too afraid to simply trial-and-error this thing, as my research has taught me that "you can turn your modem into a brick" if you stuff it up. I have no real knowledge of these specific fields I need to fill out as the help documentation is less than helpful. I will paste it below for your amusement:"DSCP: used to specify the DSCP to be classified."That is not helpful at all:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QoS When bandwidth is limited through the QoS function, the gateway can allocate all the bandwidth to a certain application, increasing the priority of the application. Global Settings On this page you can set certain global parameters of the QoS. described as follows:

Enable: is used to specify whether to enable the QoS function.

Bandwidth: is used to specify the bandwidth used for the QoS.

Queue type:is used to select a policy used for the QoS.The available types are described as follows:

PQ: if you set Queue type to PQ, four queues are listed based on the priorities. The priority is classified into the highest priority, high priority, medium priority, and low priority. The gateway first schedules the queue with a higher priority. If the queue with a higher priority has a packet cache, the queue with a lower priority cannot be scheduled.

WFQ: If you set Queue type to WFQ, four queues are listed. You can set the weight of the bandwidth occupied by each queue. The bandwidth is allocated to each queue based on the corresponding weight.

WFQ,PQ: If you set Queue type to WFQ,PQ, four queues are listed. The first queue has the highest priority, the other queues scheduled by WFQ.

Note: the templates have certain preset classification rules. After you select a template, you can modify the parameter settings of the template.

Queue: the parameters of the queue vary with queue types. You need to set the queue type in the global settings, and then set the corresponding queue parameters. For each queue type, all the queues can be enabled or disabled separately.

Policy: You can limit the rate of stream though configuring the Policy parameters.

Traffic Classification On this page, you can manage the traffic classification rules on the basis of the QoS settings. The parameters are described as follows:

Rule name: It is used to specify the name of the current rule.

Enable: used to specify whether to enable the current rule.

Source MAC: used to specify the source MAC addresses to be classified.

Dest MAC: used to specify the destination MAC addresses to be classified.

Source IP and Source IP Mask: used to specify the source IP addresses and mask to be classified.

Dest IP and Dest IP Mask: used to specify the destination IP addresses and mask to be classified.

Source Port and Source Port Max: used to specify the range of the source ports to be classified.

Dest Port and Dest Port Max: used to specify the range of the destination ports to be classified.

LAN Interface: used to select the lan interface on which the packets are classified.

WAN Interface: used to select the wan interface on which the packets are classified.

DSCP: used to specify the DSCP to be classified.

Protocol: used to select the protocol used by the packets to be classified.

VLAN ID: used to specify the VLAN ID to be classified.

802.1p: used to specify the 802.1p values to be classified.

Note: After setting the preceding matching conditions, you can perform the following operations on the matched streams:

DSCP mark: used to add a DSCP mark to the matched stream.

802.1p mark: used to add a 802.1p mark to the matched stream.

Policy: used to select a Policy that the configured rule is to be applied. For details about how to configure the Policy, see the description about the QoS page.

Queue: used to select a queue that the configured rule is to be applied. For details about how to configure the queue, see the description about the QoS page.

Note: After setting the parameters, click Submit so that the rule can take effect. In addition, you can modify, delete, or disable the rules. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I know how to find my mac address and ip address using ipconfig in cmd.exe. I simply do not know the difference between source and destination. Port min and max. Or any of the several other fields.Thank you to anyone who can help me.~ Sinoxa

HG630b as a wireless repeater

Hey guysFirst post but have gained so much valuable info from this site over the years.Had a wee bit of a search and couldn't find much, but I was wondering if it was possible to do the following:-Have just had fibre installed (100/20) and had the old spark-supplied HG630b router.-Have also got a second HG630b lying around from previous ADSL broadband. -The fibre install meant that my ONT had to be installed at a very un-optimal area for wi-fi range. Am I able to set up my second hg630b as a wireless repeater midway through the house, without having to plug it into the original router via ETH, or does it lack the functionality. Or should I just man up and buy a wireless repeater :)Thanks in advanceNick

Just a quick question-This is how both ends of an approx 20m Cat6 cable were wired by the Fibre installers: 1: Wht/Blue, 2: Blue, 3: Wht Brown, 4: Brown, 5: Green, 6: Wht green, 7: White Orange, 8: orangeI've had no problems with internet after 2 weeks, which is how long it took me to find this little oddity. Any thoughts on if this is a good idea to leave as is?

Flat networking options.

Hi Guys,At the end of the month I am moving into a flat with 6 young male adults, and we have decided to go with 200/20 UFB plan.Currently I have a Ubiquiti Edge router lite, a gigabit smart switch, a Peplink AC Mini access point.I am planning on using the Ubiquiti as the primary router, and have the ISP supplied router as a access point - one upstairs and one downstairs to hopefully spread the load and provide better coverage.A few questions:1) Which ISP should I go with, and which has the best router offering for what I am trying to do.2) Can said router still use its phone function if it is not the edge device on the network (I would just plug the internet into one of the routers switchports).3) Any other things I should watch out for?

Hello all,I've finally decided that the wifi/internet troubles in my house are due to major overcrowding on 2.4Ghz - WiFi Analyzer on Android was awesome in spotting that. So it's time to go for a 5GHz router, but the question is which one.My main requirements are:- video & audio streaming. We have 2 Samsung Smart TVs and make a lot of use of Netflix- Skype from laptop / Facetime from iPad- a small amount of online gaming from a recently-built desktop (with a 5GHz wireless card in it)We have 2 adults & 1 teenager in the house. At the moment we're on ADSL via Bigpipe, but we're promised fibre in the street within 6 months.I'm not looking to spend a fortune, so something in the $200 range would be preferable, but if there is a good reason to go a little higher I will. Thanks in advance for any advice.Cheers,Martin

Moved from asdl2 to Vodafone gigabits fibre last week so now looking more seriously about cabling the house with Ethernet.I'm lucky in that it's an old villa with wooden walls and complete access to under the house so running cable should be straight forward.According to the telecommunications forum builders guidelines , cat 6a is what I should be installing but I wonder whether it's pushing the faster cabling because they are aiming at new build houses where cables will be inaccessible and need to run for years in the future. My house will easy to recable in 5-10 years if needed. The ONT terminates in a cupboard in the middle of the house so all cable runs are less than 15m. Might run cable to the furtherist end of garage in case build man cave but that would be less than 30m.I have no equipment with with ports faster than 1 gigabits currently. Most bandwidth intensive use currently would be streaming blu rays from NAS.4k streaming should work over cat6 shouldn't it ?So is it reasonable to use cat 6 rather than 6a ?Thanks.A.This is a achievable project for you average geekzone poster ?

Integrated VDSL modem/Wifi router vs bridged standalone modem and router - pros and cons?

Hello, First time poster, but long time readerI have poor Wifi performance with the Spark provided Huawei HG630bIt may have something to do with the crowded Wifi environment I live in, and also the size of the house.I wish to purchase a better Wifi AP, one that has the option to add an extender if required.I am trying to decide whether to buy an integrated VDSL modem/router e.g. Asus DSL-N66U (802.11n only, 900 Mbps max, $289)D-link DSL-2877AL (802.11ac 750 Mbps max, $198)TP-link TD-W9980 802.11n, 600 Mbps, $178)or whether I should buy a standalone Wifi router only, connected to the Huawei via bridge mode e.g.TP-Link Archer C7 (802.11ac 1750 Mbps, $213)TP-Link Archer C9 (802.11ac 1900 Mbps, $240)Asus RT-AC56S (802.11ac; 1200Mbps $259) D-Link DIR-880L (802.11ac and 1900, $269)For obvious reasons, it would appear that getting a Wifi router only will give me better Wifi specs for the same money, but it will need to be bridged to the Huawei. My questions are:(1) Would an integrated solution offers better performance than a bridged performance since all the electronics talk to each other directly rather than via a link.(2) Is it better to have an integrated solution at a lower Wifi spec, than to have a bridged solution with higher Wifi spec?(3) Are there any downsides to bridge mode, besides the one time only set up hassle?(4) Of the above routers / modems, which one would you recommend from each of the category (those are within my budget i.e. $200-300)?

Good eventing I would appreciate any assistance :-), Is it possible to reconfigure a surplus Huawei HG659b gateway from Spark. I want to use it as just a plain old wireless access point to plug into one of the home switches. I have tried this out of the box and you can access the HG659 wirelessly fine but it keeps trying to connect to the internet and Wireless traffic does not get routed to the home server via one of the Lan ports on the device. Thanks for any tipsRegardsMike Drummond

I have a customer who has had lightning melt their Snap supplied Fritz!Box 7490 router.Does anybody know if they would be able to use my Spark supplied Huewei 630b router for their VDSL connection. Just to see them out for the weekend or is it hard-coded in the firmware for Spark's settings only?

How to know if a router will work with my (Spark) UFB?

Hi very sorry if it's already been asked, the first page of the forum didn't reveal any.1. So my understanding is the "Modem" for UFB is the ONT itself - correct/wrong?2. If I wanted a router that does wireless N600 and AC1200+, how will I know whether it will work with the UFB?3. Will a third party router need any "setting up" or is it plug and play or close to it?
